Description Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. As a result, the system could remove the Electric Power Steering (EPS) assist.
Consequences If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power steering control module (PSCM) and the instrument cluster module, free of charge. If a vehicle shows a history of a loss of the torque sensor signal or fault codes relating to the PSCM when the vehicle is brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on July 18, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S05.
Notes Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Some type of electrical problem. Radio shuts off, interior lights turn off, turn signal/hazard lights don't flash on panel. Warning lights illuminate: (tire pressure, door(s) open, brake light).

Transmission as gotten worst the closer i got to 10,000. Not if i accelerate to hard after comes to a stop the transmission slips. I even get that useless wrench on the dashboard. I like the truck but i hope this is not something long term

Have been driving a 2010 Escape XLT since June 22nd and it has performed well. I have a small issue with sunlight sometimes glaring off the instrument cluster lens while driving. I am looking for an after market product to correct this but have not found anything yet.

Transmission was erratic when first purchased, thought I got a lemon. Then got the recall and it still is awful. Jerks when you shift. Gas pedal doesn't respond to foot pressure adequately. Car shakes at a stop. Pops into gear on occasion when putting in reverse. The transmission is a complete mess. I have driven a Mercury Mariner with the smaller engine and it did not act like this at all. Now I am stuck with a balance of over $20,000 and a car I feel unsafe in and I feel like I am on a carnival ride. Not a pleasure to drive. Very, very disappointed in this piece of junk.

Do you drive a 2010 FORD ESCAPE?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
