Hi there is an even more dangerous problem, terrifying when it happens which and I know at least one other has experienced (thought they only mentioned starting problems). My car is a 1991 SAAB Carlsson 220,000kms. Sometimes, and sometimes consistently for months , turning on headlights will instantly stall the engine. One of the symptoms I realise when the motor will not start with lowbeam headligh light switch "on" is that the system icons (ABS, Fuel, Battery etc) lamps do not come on when ignition is turned-on. If headlight switch turned to "parkers" or "off" sooner or later the systtem icons will come on and the car can be started...turn on headlights, instant stall. When it doesn't do it consistently...and no SAAB place I have been to has yet been able to fix it...I find myslef suddeny having to drive holding the high beam stalk on all the time. Most dangerous. There are still thousands of these 9000 SAABs around world wide. Cheers Tony

Do you drive a 1988 SAAB 9000?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.
