RECALL FOR SEATS

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL BUSES EQUIPPED WITH 39" SCHOOL BUS SEATS. THE SEATS IN THESE BUSES HAVE FRAME MATERIAL THAT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE ENERGY ABSORPTION REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 222, "SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION."

Description VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL BUSES EQUIPPED WITH 39" SCHOOL BUS SEATS. THE SEATS IN THESE BUSES HAVE FRAME MATERIAL THAT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE ENERGY ABSORPTION REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 222, "SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION."
Consequences IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE OCCUPANT OF THE SEAT MAY INCUR PERSONAL INJURIES.
Corrective action A GUSSET WILL BE ADDED TO THE SEAT CUSHION FRAME. IN ADDITION, A REINFORCEMENT STRAP WILL BE ADDED TO THE FRONT OF THE SEAT LEG.
Notes OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN SEPTEMBER 16, 1997. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT COLLINS AT 1-800-533-1850.ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-800-424-9393.
