RECALL FOR UNKNOWN OR OTHER

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE SCREWS HOLDING THE SIDESTAND SWITCH CAN LOOSEN AND FALL OUT DUE TO ENGINE HEAT AND VIBRATION. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE SIDESTAND SWITCH WOULD NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY, SO IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO RIDE THE MOTORCYCLE WITH THE SIDESTAND IN THE DOWN POSITION.

Description VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE SCREWS HOLDING THE SIDESTAND SWITCH CAN LOOSEN AND FALL OUT DUE TO ENGINE HEAT AND VIBRATION. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE SIDESTAND SWITCH WOULD NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY, SO IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO RIDE THE MOTORCYCLE WITH THE SIDESTAND IN THE DOWN POSITION.
Consequences THIS CONDITION WOULD INCREASE THE RISK THAT THE SIDESTAND COULD HIT THE GROUND DURING A TURN, WHICH COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE MOTORCYCLE.
Corrective action DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SCREWS HOLDING THE SIDESTAND SWITCH.
Notes OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 13, 2000. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-962-7926. ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
