Description Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 Ram 1500 trucks manufactured from February 27, 2008, through June 30, 2009, and from December 1, 2009, through October 20, 2011; model year 2009-2011 Dodge Dakota trucks manufactured from February 27, 2007, through June 30, 2009, and from December 1, 2009, through September 30, 2011; model year 2009 Chrysler Aspen trucks manufactured from January 3, 2008, through December 18, 2008; and model year 2009 Dodge Durango trucks manufactured from January 3, 2008, through December 18, 2008. The rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to an undersized pinion spline that can allow relative motion between the nut and companion flange.
Consequences If the rear axle pinion nut loosens, the axle can lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a vehicle crash with little warning.
Corrective action On November 7, 2013 Chrysler notified owners that dealers would install a pinion nut retainer, free of charge. In July 2015, and under a consent order with NHTSA, the company agreed to offer owners three options for remedying their vehicles: perform the original remedy, offer to repurchase the vehicle at the fair market value plus 10%, or offer an additional incentive offer towards the purchase of a new Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, or Fiat vehicle. Chrysler will notify owners of the new recall options in a letter expected to be mailed on August 31, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N08.
Notes This campaign is an expansion of a recall campaign 12V-474.Chrysler's recall campaign number is N08.Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Why are there no oveheating issues listed? I hae a 1999 Durango that I love and it overheats and stalls at various times. There are hundreds of complaints online. This is a VERY DANGEROUS situation for us owners. There have been times vehicles have stopped on the highway go 50-70 MPH and have been in near accidents. There have been times vehicles have stopped in intersections with much traffic. You are putting us and our families in danger while driving or being on the road with someone who has this vehicle. We cannot afford to keep fixing a problem that still continues. We cannot in good conscience sell to someone else and we cannot afford to buy another vehicle. I have 2 kids, 1 who will be driving very soon. I will not send my children out in this death trap. I am seriously looking for an attorney to start a class action suit against your company. I am sure I will find many others who will come on board. It won't be hard to find them. The government has bailed your company out.

Do you drive a 2009 DODGE DURANGO?

Just because a car has been recalled does not mean it is not a reliable car. Millions of cars get recalled every year. Recalls often involve problems that are rare but could cause a serious problem if they occur. So the risk to any given driver is often remote, even though there may be a few high-profile incidents traced to the problem.

Tell us what you think.
