RECALL FOR STEERING : LINKAGES : DRAG : LINK : CONNECTION

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CLASS 8 HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. DURING ASSEMBLY, INSUFFICIENT TORQUE OCCURRED OF THE DRAG LINK TO THE AXLE STEERING ARM CONNECTION. IF THE DRAG LINK TO AXLE STTERING ARM CONNECTION IS NOT TORQUED AND THE COTTER PIN IS NOT INSTALLED, THE NUT COULD BACK OFF DURING VEHICLE OPERATION.

Description VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CLASS 8 HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. DURING ASSEMBLY, INSUFFICIENT TORQUE OCCURRED OF THE DRAG LINK TO THE AXLE STEERING ARM CONNECTION. IF THE DRAG LINK TO AXLE STTERING ARM CONNECTION IS NOT TORQUED AND THE COTTER PIN IS NOT INSTALLED, THE NUT COULD BACK OFF DURING VEHICLE OPERATION.
Consequences IF THE NUT BACKS OFF, THERE COULD BE A LOSS OF DRIVER CONTROL.
Corrective action DEALERS WILL RETORQUE THE DRAG LINK TO THE AXLE STEERING ARM CONNECTION.
Notes OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN NOVEMBER 24, 1997. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MACK AT 1-610-709-3011.ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-800-424-9393.
