Jayco, Inc., is recalling certain model year 2008-2009 and 2011 Greyhawk Class C motorhomes

Jayco, Inc., (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2008-2009 and 2011 Greyhawk Class C motorhomes, model year 2008-2011 Melbourne Class C motorhomes, and 2008-2010 Octane Sport Utility travel trailers manufactured from May 21, 2007, through September 10, 2010, equipped with Iota-brand transfer switches. These trailers may have an improper electrical connection at the buss bar on the affected transfer switches. This improper connection may lead to overheating and melting of the transfer switch.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 1,596 units affected.

Description:: Jayco, Inc., (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2008-2009 and 2011 Greyhawk Class C motorhomes, model year 2008-2011 Melbourne Class C motorhomes, and 2008-2010 Octane Sport Utility travel trailers manufactured from May 21, 2007, through September 10, 2010, equipped with Iota-brand transfer switches. These trailers may have an improper electrical connection at the buss bar on the affected transfer switches. This improper connection may lead to overheating and melting of the transfer switch.
Consequeces:: Overheating and melting of the transfer switch increases the risk of a fire.
Corrective action:: Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace the transfer switch, free of charge. The recall began on October 10, 2012. Owners may contact Jayco at 1-800-283-8267.

THIS CAN CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND OR DEATH. THE REDHAWK BRAND MAY ALSO BE AFFECTED. IF YOU OWN A GREYHAWK OR REDHAWK MOTORHOME I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU INSPECT YOUR HELLWIG SPRINGS ADJUSTMENT. I HAVE ATTACHED PHOTOS OF AN INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED SPRING AND A CORRECTLY ADJUSTED SPRING. IF THE SPRINGS ARE NOT CORRECTLY ADJUSTED THE SPRING SHACKLE CAN FAIL DUE TO THE BOLTS STRIPPING THE THREADS. GIVEN THE WEIGHT OF THE UNIT THE HELLWIG HELPER SPRINGS SHOULD BE ADJUSTED SO THERE IS APPROXIMATELY 3/4" - 1" OF DISTANCE TO THE FACTORY SPRINGS. *TR;
2011 JAYCO MELBOURNE CLASS C Complaints
THE FRAME APPEARS TO BE BENDING JUST AFT OF THE DIFFERENTIAL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DROPPING THE REAR OF THE MOTORHOME AND CAUSING INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE COACH AT THE SPOT OF THE BEND. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS TO JAYCO HAVE BEEN MADE. JAYCO MODIFIED THE FRAME ON THIS E450 BY ADDING A SECTION INTO THE FRAME. THIS CONDITION HAS HAPPENED OVER TIME AND WAS NOTICED IN THE FRST 4 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. I BOUGHT THIS COACH NEW. I HAD IT INSPECTED AND THE INSPECION ONLY REVEALED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, WITH NO FURTHER DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM. THERE HASVE BEEN NO INCIDENTS RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. PICTURE #1 IS A VIEW OF THE FLOOR THAT SHOS IT IS BOWING. #2 SHOWS HOW THE CABINET AT FLOOR LEVEL HAS BROKEN AND OPENED UP. PICTURE #3 SHOWS THE FIRST PROBLEM EXPERIENCED WITH THIS RIG, WHERRE THE AFTER SECTION OF THE OVERLOAD SPRINGS WERE CATCHING ON THE FRAME. THIS WAS FIXED BY REMOVING A SECTION OF THE SPRING.;
