Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Altima

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Altima, LEAF, Pathfinder, and Sentra, model year 2013 NV200 (aka Taxi) and Infiniti JX35 and model year 2014 Infiniti Q50 and QX60 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the occupant classification system (OCS) software may incorrectly classify the passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 989,701 units affected.

Description:: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Altima, LEAF, Pathfinder, and Sentra, model year 2013 NV200 (aka Taxi) and Infiniti JX35 and model year 2014 Infiniti Q50 and QX60 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the occupant classification system (OCS) software may incorrectly classify the passenger seat as empty, when it is occupied by an adult.
Consequeces:: If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger airbag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.
Corrective action:: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge. The recall began on April 14, 2014. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

2013 INFINITI JX35 Complaints
The contact owns a 2013 Infiniti JX35. The contact stated that while pulling into a parking space, the vehicle hesitated while driving forward. After parking the vehicle, the contact later returned and started the vehicle; however, while driving a short distance, the vehicle suddenly lost automotive power and failed to properly accelerate. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was parked at a nearby parking lot and later towed to the residence. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 182,000.;
2014 INFINITI Q50 Complaints
On April 2nd I took my vehicle into the dealer for recall servicing. After leaving the dealer I had my vehicle inspected the next day by a third party repair shop and my brake caliper was missing the main bolt that connects to the brake pad. Brake pads were also less than 5% wear remaining. Myself and others were put in serious danger if my brakes had failed due to this serious oversight and disregard. My suspension also was unsafe in the rear but the dealer carried out a multi point inspection stating everything passed.;
2014 INFINITI QX60 Complaints
While driving in slow, heavy highway traffic, the vehicle suffered a structural failure of the rear crossmember / rear subframe due to severe rust. This is a safety-critical structural component and part of the rear suspension mounting system. When braking, the vehicle swerved hard to the right and crossed into the shoulder. Fortunately, the vehicle was already in the right lane, which likely prevented a more serious incident. The failure created a serious risk of loss of control and crash. After the incident, I took it straight to a mechanic on the way and the condition was identified as a broken rear crossmember caused by advanced corrosion. The failed component is available for inspection.;
2014 NISSAN ALTIMA Complaints
My 2014 Nissan Altima has experienced loss of visibility from the headlights significantly to the point of feeling unsafe driving at night. I believe the cause of these issue is due to degradation of the reflective coating within the headlamps. New bulbs installed have not improved the quality of the headlights performance leading me to believe this is caused by a fault of the headlamp assembly itself.;
