Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Allegro

Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. (Tiffin) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Allegro, 2010-2011 Bus and Breeze, and 2008-2011 Phaeton and Zephyr recreational vehicles, equipped with LED clearance lights made by Command Electronics, Inc. In the affected vehicles, moisture may enter the light and cause a short between two connections on the circuit board.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 4,414 units affected.

Description:: Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. (Tiffin) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Allegro, 2010-2011 Bus and Breeze, and 2008-2011 Phaeton and Zephyr recreational vehicles, equipped with LED clearance lights made by Command Electronics, Inc. In the affected vehicles, moisture may enter the light and cause a short between two connections on the circuit board.
Consequeces:: A short in the circuit board increases the risk of a fire.
Corrective action:: Tiffin will notify owners, and dealers will install a one amp inline fuse into the front and rear circuits that will blow if there is a short in any of the clearance lights, free of charge. The recall began on July 31, 2014. Owners may contact Tiffin customer service at 1-256-356-8661.

2011 TIFFIN ALLEGRO BUS Complaints
The contact owns a 2011 Tiffin Allegro Bus. The contact initially received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V526000 (Structure) and the RV was taken to a RV dealer and serviced. Recently, the contact took the RV to an independent mechanic for routine maintenance check and was informed that the part used to repair the exhaust shield, had rubbed against the exhaust pipe and created a hole. The mechanic informed the contact that the failure could have led to a fire. The mechanic also informed the contact that the bedroom floor located underneath the exhaust was charred due to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and acknowledged the defect. The RV was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.;
2011 TIFFIN PHAETON Complaints
The contact owned a 2011 Tiffin Phaeton motorhome equipped with Michelin tires, Tire line: Green X, Tire size: 275/80R22.5, and DOT number: M5EJOOEX3815. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the front passenger's side tire had a blowout, which caused the RV to crash into a utility pole, trees, and then stop after crashing into a fence. The contact and his wife, who was a passenger, were transported by ambulance to the hospital. The contact had a scratch above his eye, while his wife suffered three broken ribs, bruised, and stitches on her arms and legs. A police report was filed. The RV was hauling a double-decker trailer, a 2017 Lincoln MKZ, and a Boston Whaler, which were towed to a tow yard and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Prior to the failure, the rear passenger's side tire had a blowout and the manufacturer covered half the cost of replacement.;
