Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks manufactured January 28, 2004, to August 3, 2005. In the affected vehicles, the rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to an undersized spline on the pinion gear.

The recall was influenced by the Office of Defects Investigation with about 257,065 units affected.

Description:: Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks manufactured January 28, 2004, to August 3, 2005. In the affected vehicles, the rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to an undersized spline on the pinion gear.
Consequeces:: If the pinion nut loosens, the rear axle may seize, and/or the driveshaft may detach resulting in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install a retention feature to the pinion nut, free of charge. The recall began on June 26, 2015, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P77.

I believe that the pinion nut loosened causing my rear end to lock up snapping the ears off my driveshaft at 75mph on [XXX] causing me to fishtail and nearly hitting the guard rail. Coming to a stop on a bridge right outside of [XXX]. It's pitch black outthere. And with semi tru cks able to do 75mph every time they pass just shakes your whole vehicle and if you know anything about I- 40 semis are pretty much what runs at that time. My wife was very upset by this.the spot we were at was so dangerous that the tow truck dispatcher had there driver drop the car he was towing and get to us the driver had us stay in the vehicle why he loaded us just to get us off the interstate.at the time I don't know about recall p77.so at the time I had my truck towed to my mechanic. Dodge is giving a hard time about not taking to a dodge dealership. But as I stated I didn't know about the recall.so my father a [XXX] naval veteran on a limited budget and in bad health paid 1667.93 out of his pocket to fix his truck.I been trying to get reimbursed. But dodge refused stating I should have brought it to them.I supplied the work order and credit card receipt for proof of payment. Which is what they ask for.then they asked for a total break down of the repairs. And also stated that the recall wasn't responsible for the driveshaft snapping. I asked them how they could say that without seeing my truck. When they refused. I then asked them if I could bring it in so they can check it out and I could clear the recall.
