Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2001-2003 Nissan Maxima

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2001-2003 Nissan Maxima, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4 and I35, 2003 FX35 and FX45, and 2001 I30 vehicles. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

The recall was influenced by the Office of Defects Investigation with about 1,090,569 units affected.

Description:: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2001-2003 Nissan Maxima, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4 and I35, 2003 FX35 and FX45, and 2001 I30 vehicles. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
Consequeces:: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
Corrective action:: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on June 15, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Note: On December 18, 2015 Nissan informed NHTSA of an amendment of this recall to remove 2004-2005 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 vehicles.

2001 INFINITI I30 Complaints
In the last 2 months I have had the front passenger tire blow out 3 times. After this last tire repair the car started to shake, vibrate and make a knocking noise while driving. When driving faster the steering wheel would jerk me almost offthe road. It was so bad I pulled over and when I looked at the front passenger tire it was smoking and sitting sideways. I had to get my vehicle towed and now I have no way to work. I have included an estimate of the repairs as well as a written warranty that was given to the previous owner. I was told this was no longer valid since I am not the original owner of the vehicle. The way the steering jerked and how the tire went sideways I feel that is a safety issue.;
2003 INFINITI I35 Complaints
Camshaft sensor according to the Infiniti dealership (Ray Brandt on Causeway in Metairie La.) Is malfunctioning at makes the car engine die while driving. Then when you restart the car the engine revs fine in neutral but once in drive it won't go over 5 mph. Also the timing chain tensioner fails on this car and can cause severe engine damage while the car is being driven. I've looked up both of these problems and have spoken with Nissan and Infiniti and a simple internet search will also confirm that these 2 problems are extremely common on this 5th generation engine. Nissan even lost 2 class action lawsuits on the timing tensioner. Well if Nissan lost 2 court battles over an engine defect that every Nissan internet forum says is a very very common problem then why isn't there a recall. And shouldn't hazing headlights be a safety issue on ALL cars? Almost all cars have this problem and manufacturers keep building cars with UNSAFE headlights. Why aren't these recalls? Thank you for this website. As an American Citizen and consumer with a daughter these safety concerns are very troubling to me and all my friends and business associates.;
2003 INFINITI QX4 Complaints
I KEEP GETTING NOTICES ABOUT THIS AIRBAG RECALL, BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS DONATED TO HUDSON HIGH SCHOOL AND BROKEN DOWN FOR PARTS. THIS VEHICLE HASN'T BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR OVER 3 YEARS. PLEASE TAKE THIS OFF THE RECALL LIST.;
2003 NISSAN MAXIMA Complaints
The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. Additionally, while driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was later towed to the residence. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 225,000.;
2004 NISSAN PATHFINDER Complaints
On October 23 2023 I purchased from Firestone where I have been a customer for some 30 years paying nearly $1000 for 4 tires. 1) On January 6, 2024 the first tire on the front driver"s side had picked up a nail GEICO road hadzard came and removed the tire. Firestone said they could not repair the tire and replaced it with another SureDrive new tire and charged me $55 plus dollars to replace. 2) On March 14, 2024 the 2nd tire on the rear passenger side picked up another nail GEICO came again and removed the tire that one was patched for free. 3) Then on May 2, 2024 the front passenger side with a slash and could not be repaired so it was replaced with a new tire and charges me some $25. 4) Then on July 24, 2024 the rear driver side and that tire had picked up a nail and by then I had started carrying an air pump in case of a flat and I would not have to wait for Roadside Service. So that time I left the nail in the tire and covered it with heavy piece of duct tape. Then attached the pump and aired it up and drove to the nearest Firestone where they patched that tire. Now I have four tires on my car with patches. Even the on new tire that replaced the slashed tired soon picked up a nail and had to be patched. I bought the tires because I had Michelin tires on my vehicle for which Firestone said during a Auto-Care complete check special for $9.99, that my tires were 12 years old and was dry rotted and dangerous to keep driving on. Being that I am a senior and ride alone most times I took their advice and bought a set of 4 new tires. I have asked the landlord to check their security cameras to rule out vandalism and I asked if others had suffered unusual tire flats. The answer was none. I live in a very clean and cared for apartment. Therefore it must be the tires. Maybe they were used instead of new. Perhaps you can help. Because now I feel more unsafe than before I bought the new tires. I am just worn out getting tire flats repaired.;
