American Honda Motor Company, Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Accord vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the air bag control units may corrode and fail.

The recall was influenced by the Office of Defects Investigation with about 341,444 units affected.

Description:: American Honda Motor Company, Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Accord vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the air bag control units may corrode and fail.
Consequeces:: If the air bag control unit fails, the air bags may not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury.
Corrective action:: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag control units, free of charge. Parts are expected to be available in Fall 2016. Interim notifications have been mailed to owners on March 15, 2016, and a second notice will be mailed when remedy parts are available. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is JW9. Note: This recall supersedes Recall 15V665.

I am submitting this complaint regarding two separate front drive shaft/axle failures involving my 2010 Honda Accord while living and driving in [XXX], a state specifically identified by American Honda as a "salt belt" state in connection with its December 15, 2020 recalls involving corrosion-related front drive shaft breakage. The driver-side front drive shaft/axle on my 2010 Honda Accord snapped on XXX. The passenger-side front drive shaft/axle subsequently snapped on XXX. These were two separate failures involving both front sides of my vehicle and created a serious and potentially dangerous loss of vehicle operation. I am particularly concerned because my fiancé has experienced nearly identical failures involving his 2009 Honda Accord while we have been living and driving in the same [XXX] conditions. The front passenger-side drive shaft/axle on his vehicle snapped in XXX, and the driver-side front drive shaft/axle subsequently broke on XXX. Thus, between our two Honda Accords, both front drive shafts/axles on each vehicle have failed, resulting in four separate front drive shaft/axle failures across two vehicles in the same household. My concerns are further heightened by the existence of multiple publicly reported complaints involving 2009 and 2010 Honda Accords describing front axle, CV axle, or driveshaft failures, including reports in which the failures were attributed to salt corrosion. I am attaching one such complaint involving a 2010 Honda Accord as a representative example. I recognize that another consumer's complaint does not, by itself, establish the cause of my vehicle's failures or prove the existence of a defect. However, these reports are significant when considered alongside the two separate front drive shaft/axle failures involving my vehicle, the two similar failures involving my fiancé's 2009 Honda Accord, and American Honda's prior acknowledgment that road-salt corrosion can cause front driv INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6);
