Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured May 31, 2015, to April 30, 2016, and 2015-2016 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured May 1, 2015, to April 30, 2016. The affected vehicles are configured to have super-high roofs, but may not be equipped with the required crash pads.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 3 units affected.

Description:: Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured May 31, 2015, to April 30, 2016, and 2015-2016 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured May 1, 2015, to April 30, 2016. The affected vehicles are configured to have super-high roofs, but may not be equipped with the required crash pads.
Consequeces:: If the required crash pads are missing, it can increase the risk of injury to a front passenger seat occupant if they are unbelted.
Corrective action:: DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will install the required crash-pads, free of charge. The recall began on August 11, 2016. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267.

2016 FREIGHTLINER SPRINTER 2500 Complaints
The contact owns a 2016 Freightliner Sprinter 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the rear wheels would brake independently; as the failure persisted, the ABS warning light would illuminate on the instrument panel. The contact called the dealer; however, they could not grant a soon enough appointment. The contact stated that as he was coming to a stop with his foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle independently accelerated as the contact slammed on the brake pedal. He was then forced to swerve out of the way of the vehicle in front of him as the vehicle continued to accelerate. The ABS fault warning light was then illuminated on the instrument panel as the vehicle returned to normal operation. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.;
2016 FREIGHTLINER SPRINTER 3500 Complaints
WHILE DRIVING USING CRUISE CONTROL, THE SPEED WAS INCREASING 15 MPH PAST THE SETTING. I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY USING THE BRAKE. THEN ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER THAT IT WOULDN'T SHIFT RIGHT, IT WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO A HIGH GEAR AND IT WOULD BE HARD TO GET MOVING FROM A STOP. I HAD TO DRIVE TO A DEALER SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES AND IT WAS QUITE HARROWING. OF COURSE THEY COULDN'T WORK ON IT FOR 3 DAYS SO WE RENTED A CAR TO GO BACK HOME 400 MILES. THE PROBLEM WAS A REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED IN LESS THAN 5 MONTHS, ONCE IN VIRGINIA WITH 36410 MILES ON IT AND AGAIN IN NEBRASKA WITH 40621 MILES. IT CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE SOMETIMES THERE IS NO SHOULDER AND CAN NOT DRIVE FAST ENOUGH FOR THE TRAFFIC BEHIND. THE PROBLEM BOTH TIMES WERE REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSORS.;
2016 MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 2500 Complaints
The door latch and or roller failed which prevents the door from closing properly. Since the door does not close all the way, there is the risk that it opens while driving. This is a recurring issue I have on this vehicle and triggered a lemon-law buyback.;
2016 MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 3500 Complaints
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?** The engine/internal engine components and fuel injection system failed. was stated in video that fuel injector looked fine. cylinder #2, including a burnt valve and damage to the top of the piston. The Mercedes-Benz dealership also stated that it was highly likely that the cylinder #2 potentially by becoming stuck wide open or developing a severely abnormal spray pattern. The failed engine and components may be available for inspection upon request, depending on the current repair status and whether the components have been retained. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?** The engine experienced a serious internal failure while the vehicle was being driven. The dealership identified a burnt valve and piston damage in cylinder #2 and stated that a mechanical failure of the cylinder #2 fuel injector was highly likely. A catastrophic engine failure while the vehicle is being operated can result in sudden loss of engine power, creating a potential safety risk to the occupants and other motorists. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The problem was confirmed and diagnosed by a Mercedes-Benz dealership. The dealership performed a borescope inspection, compression testing, and smoke testing. The dealership documented a burnt valve in cylinder #2 and damage to the top of the piston. The dealership also stated that it was highly likely that the cylinder #2 injector had failed mechanically, either by becoming stuck wide open or developing a severely abnormal spray pattern. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes. The vehicle was inspected and diagnosed by a Mercedes-Benz dealership, which confirmed the internal engine damage.;
