Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade, RAM ProMaster, and 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 329,540 units affected.

Description:: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade, RAM ProMaster, and 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.
Consequeces:: If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module and the Transmission Control Module and if necessary replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness, free of charge. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55.

Electricity light came on as well as overheating light and engine light all at once also stalling;
2015 JEEP CHEROKEE Complaints
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that there was an abnormal burning odor coming from the A/C unit while in operation. The contact also stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle hesitated upon depression of the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the vehicle shifted into neutral(N) without warning and rolled backward. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V529000 (Power Train) and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer initially informed the contact that the vehicle was included in the recall; however, the contact was later informed that the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 144,233.;
2015 JEEP RENEGADE Complaints
while the vehicle was being driven at highway speed, a large piece of roof trim detached from the vehicle and went airborne. The piece measures approximately 6 inches by 42 inches, and is stiff plastic. My jeep renegade has the MySky sunroof option, and this trim is a piece that sit just forward of those panels, filling the gap between the sunroof and the metal of the windshield frame. To be clear, this piece is not part of the sunroof itself, it is supposed to be a permanently attached and not movable part of the vehicle. The piece went airborne to the extent that it left the roadway. I was able to return later and recover it. Inspecting the piece and where it attaches, there is no damage to the vehicle or the piece. It attaches only with two sided tape and urethane - it is designed with no true mechanical connection to the vehicle - no clips, bolts, or fasteners. The piece detached as heat and time had degraded the two sided tape and urethane. This is the second time this exact failure has occurred with this vehicle. The first was in August of 2018. The piece was replaced by New Holland Jeep Service, and they acknowledged it as a defect and gave a warranty extension as a courtesy. Searching online, this is a known issue for owners of Jeep Renegades with the MySky option. This is a hazard and negligent design. A large panel like this should not be held on with tape and glue. It is fortunate that there was no traffic behind the vehicle either time this piece detached and went airborne. It is easy to imagine a scenario where this could have caused an accident. Given that these panels rely on only adhesive to remain attached to the vehicle, the danger of these detaching grows with time as heat and age weaken the tape + urethane.;
2015 RAM PROMASTER Complaints
While driving on the freeway my engine started slowing down and a message came on the dash saying "Transmission Service". I was fortunate enough to make it to the right shoulder from the first lane and the engine stopped. The readout on the dash said I was in neutral but I was in park. The car wouldn't start. After cooling down I could start and drive but the same issue would happen intermittently. I took it to AAMCO and they told me that there was a recall for the range sensor and wiring harness (S55/NHTSA 16V-529). When I got to the dealer he said that recall didn't pertain to my vehicle and I would have to pay for the service. Since the issue does cover vehicles of my make, model and year I want to know why isn't it covered? It's the same issue as the ones covered. I'm lucky that I wasn't involved in an accident because of this.;
2016 FIAT 500X Complaints
The contact owns a 2016 Fiat 500X. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH through a green light, another vehicle driving through a red light and attempting to make a turn, the front bumper of the contact’s vehicle crashed into the front passenger’s side door. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle safely and had a passenger in the front passenger-side seat and another in the rear middle row seat. The contact was adamant that the air bags should have deployed. The contact sought medical attention for whiplash, chest pain, bruises, a sore stomach, swollen right leg, and left leg. The contact's front seat passenger sought medical attention due to additional damage caused to a previous medical procedure on the right calf. The child passenger sitting in the rear middle row seat sought medical attention for back pain. The contact stated that the local Fire Department arrived on scene to extinguish a fire under the hood. The source of the fire was unknown. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard; however, it was unknown whether it had been declared a total loss. The local dealer where the vehicle had been purchased was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.;
