Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2016 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles and 2017 Range Rover Evoque vehicles. The affected vehicles have a front passenger air bag inflator initiator that may fail to ignite during a crash, preventing the air bag from deploying.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 550 units affected.

Description:: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2016 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles and 2017 Range Rover Evoque vehicles. The affected vehicles have a front passenger air bag inflator initiator that may fail to ignite during a crash, preventing the air bag from deploying.
Consequeces:: In the event of a crash of sufficient severity, the front passenger air bag may not deploy as required, increasing the risk of injury.
Corrective action:: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 20, 2017. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is P094.

The contact owns a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V514000 (Steering); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted three times, and each time parts were not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue; however, it could not provide an ETA for when parts would be available. The contact had not experienced a failure.;

Component Structure: Equipment Summary: While driving when the weather is raining the water is dripping inside the SUV. A leaking, separating roof/windshield on the Range Rover often indicates a faulty windshield seal or, more commonly, clogged/disconnected sunroof so it appears to be separating parts or removing the glue. At this point its a matter of time there will be a separation or gap between the windshield and the roof and it will be unsafe and a disaster.
