Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2017 Audi A7

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2017 Audi A7, A4, A6, Volkswagen Golf and Tiguan vehicles and 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf vehicles for driver frontal air bags, passenger frontal air bags or head air bags that may not deploy properly. Additionally, certain 2017 Audi Q7, A4 Sedan, A4 Allroad, and 2018 Audi Q5 vehicles are being recalled because the seat belt pretensioners may not activate properly.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 5,947 units affected.

Description:: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2017 Audi A7, A4, A6, Volkswagen Golf and Tiguan vehicles and 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf vehicles for driver frontal air bags, passenger frontal air bags or head air bags that may not deploy properly. Additionally, certain 2017 Audi Q7, A4 Sedan, A4 Allroad, and 2018 Audi Q5 vehicles are being recalled because the seat belt pretensioners may not activate properly.
Consequeces:: In the event of a crash, if the air bags and/or the seat belt pretensioners do not inflate or function properly, the vehicle occupants have an increased risk of injury.
Corrective action:: Volkswagen and Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected air bags and seat belt pretensioners, free of charge. The recall began April 2017. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

2016 VOLKSWAGEN E-GOLF Complaints
The regenerative braking system on my car shut off for about half a second before re engaging automatically. I was slowing down at a red light and had a car in front of me. As I applied the brakes, I hit a bump in the road and the brakes completely stopped working, causing me to almost hit the car in front of me. I do not believe that this issue is known among these vehicles, and I don't know if it has been confirmed by a dealer or testing lab. There were no warning signs for this event, the brakes just shut off for half a second.;
2017 AUDI A4 ALLROAD Complaints
The contact owns a 2017 Audi A4. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH with the front driver's seat heater engaged, she felt a burning sensation as the seat was overheating. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact disengaged the seat heater. The contact stated that upon arriving at her destination and exiting the vehicle, she noticed that a portion of the seat's lumbar support had melted and created a hole. Additionally, the contact noticed that there was a hole in her coat. There was no warning light illuminated. There was no injury sustained. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V874000 (Seats, Air Bags) as the VIN was included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,867.;

THE AUTOMATIC START/STOP FUEL-SAVING ENGINE FEATURE ENGAGES PREMATURELY, BEFORE THE VEHICLE HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN ARTIFICIALLY AND AGGRESSIVELY APPLIED TO BRING THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE THE START/STOP ENGINE FEATURE OTHERWISE SHOULD HAVE ENGAGED. AS A RESULT, FOR VEHICLES FOLLOWING CLOSE BEHIND, THE EFFECT WILL BE THAT THE AUDI VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THEM WILL APPEAR TO LURCH TO A STOP, THUS CREATING A RISK OF A REAR-END COLLISION. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS EACH AND EVERY TIME THE START/STOP FEATURE IS ACTIVE, AND TYPICALLY INVOLVES ARTIFICIAL AND PREMATURE BRAKING/STOPPING AT LOW SPEEDS AS THE VEHICLE IS APPROACHING WHAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE ITS NATURAL STOPPING POINT BASED ON THE DRIVER-APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL.;
2017 AUDI Q7 Complaints
The vehicle has a recurring electrical failure involving the camshaft position sensor circuit (DTC P0365). The sensor itself is functional, but the wiring harness leading to the sensor develops internal copper fatigue due to a design flaw in the factory routing. The harness is bent tightly behind the passenger-side cylinder head, causing vibration-induced internal wire breakage that is invisible externally. This failure is well known to Audi dealers and has been reproduced and confirmed by multiple service centers. The problem is not caused by the sensor, plug, or engine components. It is caused by the wiring harness design, which repeatedly fails in the same 6–10 inch section. The defect causes intermittent loss of camshaft signal, illumination of the check engine light, and inability to pass emissions. Repair requires cutting open the harness and splicing in new wire, costing approximately $700–$1,200 each time. This is a repeated electrical defect caused by poor harness routing and inadequate wire durability. This issue affects safety indirectly because the vehicle cannot reliably report camshaft position to the ECM, and the failure is unpredictable. The defect is widespread among vehicles using the same engine and harness design.;
