Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2016 911 GT3 RS and 911 R vehicles and 2017 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera Cabriolet, 911 Carrera 4, 911 Carrera 4S, 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet, 911 Carrera S, 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, 911 Targa 4, 911 Targa 4S, 911 Turbo S, 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, 718 Boxster, 718 Boxster S, 718 Cayman and 718 Cayman S vehicles. The passenger frontal air bag inflator initiator may fail to ignite during a crash.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 120 units affected.

Description:: Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2016 911 GT3 RS and 911 R vehicles and 2017 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera Cabriolet, 911 Carrera 4, 911 Carrera 4S, 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet, 911 Carrera S, 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, 911 Targa 4, 911 Targa 4S, 911 Turbo S, 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, 718 Boxster, 718 Boxster S, 718 Cayman and 718 Cayman S vehicles. The passenger frontal air bag inflator initiator may fail to ignite during a crash.
Consequeces:: If the air bag inflator initiator fails to ignite, the passenger frontal air bag will not deploy, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Corrective action:: Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected air bags, free of charge. The recall began May 15, 2017. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche's number for this recall is AH03.

2016 PORSCHE 911 Complaints
The front windshield and rear window glass seals have failed. Black tar like material flows and spears the windows. Especially bad when driving during summer months. Vehicle only has 6200 miles. Is out of warrenty. Dealer says repair costs at my expense. Contacted Porsche North America Customer Assistance. They also said they would not stand behind known defect. Many defects reported and corrected by Porsche when under warrenty.;
2017 PORSCHE 718 BOXSTER Complaints
2017 PORSCHE BOXSTER 718 WITH PDK HAS STARTED IN 2ND GEAR ON 3 OCCASIONS MAKING ENTERING INTO TRAFFIC AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED VERY DANGEROUS. 1ST TIME THE PDK TRANSMISSION WAS IN PARK AND THEN I MOVED IT TO DRIVE. THE PDK SELECTED GEAR 2 WHILE IN SPORT MODE. 2ND TIME I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, STOPPED TO PUT IN DRIVE, AND THE PDK SELECTED 2ND GEAR. THE 3RD TIME I WAS SLOWING TO A LIGHT AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT RED LIGHT. I TOOK FOOT OFF BRAKE AND PDK SELECTED 2ND GEAR. I ATTEMPTED IN ALL CASES TO MANUALLY SHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR BUT THE PDK WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR. THIS HAPPENED ON 3 OCCASIONS FROM ABOUT JULY - SEP 2019. 2017 PORSCHE 718 CAYMAN Complaints
The passenger side (right rear) inside CV joint grease boot clamp failed and leaked grease. I discovered it while switching out Winter to Summer tires. I have included pictures. In researching the defect I found that it is a common occurrence with the Porsche 718 Cayman and occurs with low mileage. I believe the clamp was defective or not installed correctly during the assembly process. If I didn’t catch the leak it could have resulted in a drive axle failure and breakdown on the road endangering myself or other vehicles. My car is not tracked and is used for pleasure driving. Because I caught the leak early the Porsche dealer was able to install a new clamp. I have included the repair invoice. There were no warning messages indicating the clamp failure. My car is maintained yearly by my dealer. In addition, during my research, I read that low mileage water pump failure is also a common occurrence with 718 Cayman’s.;

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT REACHED OUT TO THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THEY HAD NOT YET RESPONDED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.;
