PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Peterbilt 567 and 579 Kenworth T680 and T880 trucks equipped with optional spotlights. The spotlight circuit may not be adequately protected in the event of a short.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 5,731 units affected.

Description:: PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Peterbilt 567 and 579 Kenworth T680 and T880 trucks equipped with optional spotlights. The spotlight circuit may not be adequately protected in the event of a short.
Consequeces:: A short in the spotlight circuitry may increase the risk of a fire at the cab fuse block.
Corrective action:: PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will change the polyfuse switch in the spotlight circuit to a standard fuse, free of charge. The recall began on September 19, 2017. 2017 KENWORTH T680 Complaints
The contact owns a 2017 Kenworth T680 equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: X-One Line Grip, Tire Size: 445/50R/22.5, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated while driving 8 MPH, on the Interstate 75, the second tire on the passenger’s side experienced a blowout. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle spun out of control and the truck axle struck the second passenger’s side tire and rim. The contact drove the vehicle to Southern Tire Mart at Pilot, where the tire and the rim were replaced. The tire was a replacement tire. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the tire manufacturer. The tire manufacturer was notified of the failure. The tire failure mileage was unknown. The vehicle failure mileage was 692,920.;
2017 KENWORTH T880 Complaints
TURN SIGNALS FAIL TO CONTINUE TO FLASH EVEN AFTER SELECTED. DASH INDICATOR LIGHT WILL RAPID FLASH BUT NOTHING OUTSIDE THE TRACTOR OR THE TRAILERS WILL ILLUMINATE. TRACTOR HAS BEEN BACK TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THEY "REFLASH" THE TRUCK CAB CONTROL COMPUTER BUT THAT HAS NEVER YET FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER MECHANICS AND TECHS SIMPLY SHRUG AND SAY IT IS A "KENWORTH THING" AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT. THE COMPANY I WORK FOR HAS TWO OF THESE TRACTORS WITH SERIAL NUMBERS ONLY ONE NUMBER APART AND BOTH TRACTORS HAVE THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND SOMETIMES THE TRACTOR WILL RUN SEVERAL DAYS AND NEVER FAIL TO ILLUMINATE THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS AND THEN IT WILL SUDDENLY FAIL AGAIN. USUALLY THE TURN SIGNALS FLASH A FEW TIMES AND THEN BEGIN THE RAPID FLASH SEQUENCE AND STOP WORKING. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS WITH SURROUNDING MOTORIST NOT UNDERSTANDING THAT I STILL INTEND TO BEGIN OR COMPLETE A TURN BUT THEY GET CONFUSED BECAUSE THE TURN SIGNALS STOP WORKING. SOMETIMES SELECTING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WILL GET THEM WORKING AGAIN. SOMETIMES PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO ILLUMINATE THE BRAKE LIGHTS (IF NOT ALREADY PRESSED) WILL GET THEM FLASHING AGAIN. VEHICLE CAN BE IN MOTION OR STATIONARY, PULLING ONE TRAILER OR TWO (I USUALLY PULL DOUBLES OR TWO TRAILERS). I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL OTHER T880 KENWORTH DRIVERS FROM OTHER COMPANIES AND THEY TOO HAVE NOTICED THE PROBLEM. DEALER IS MICHIGAN KENWORTH GRAND RAPIDS MI. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 3 YEARS AND 219000 MILES. I HAVE WRITTEN IT UP ON OUR DVIR FORMS AND IT HAS YET TO BE CORRECTED. OUR SHOP DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM LIKE THIS. OF COURSE IT NEVER FAILS IN THE SHOP DURING A ROUTINE SERVICE.;
2017 PETERBILT 579 Complaints
Unit 1 towing Unit 2 was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of IH-20. Unit 1 suffered a tire failure resulting in a blowout of the front left steering tire. Unit 1 towing Unit 2 steered towards the center median striking the guardrail and the concrete overpass barrier. Unit 1 and towed Unit 2 then rolled one-quarter roll right-over-left. Unit 1 and Unit 2 became engulfed in flames. Unit 1 came to rest in the center median, facing east, resting on the left/ driver side, with significant burn damage and not drivable. Unit 2 remained coupled to Unit 1 and came to rest in the center median, facing east, resting on the left side with significant burn damage and not towable. The driver of Unit 1 suffered severe, non-life-threatening injuries.
