Daimler Trucks North America, LLC is recalling certain 2008-2018 Freightliner Cascadia

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2008-2018 Freightliner Cascadia, Western Star 4700, 4900, 5700, and 6900 trucks. After hard brake applications, the brake light pressure switch may not activate the brake lights with a light application of the brake pedal.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 438,255 units affected.

Description:: Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2008-2018 Freightliner Cascadia, Western Star 4700, 4900, 5700, and 6900 trucks. After hard brake applications, the brake light pressure switch may not activate the brake lights with a light application of the brake pedal.
Consequeces:: If the brake lights fail to illuminate, there would not be a signal to other motorists that the vehicle is slowing, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles, free of charge. Daimler issued interim notifications to owners on January 22, 2018. The recall began on May 9, 2018. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-756.

2018 FREIGHTLINER CASCADIA Complaints
The Automatic Emergency Braking System has activated at least 3 different times while I was driving. At each occurrence there was nothing in the roadway or travel lane. The vehicle came to an abrupt stop twice and slammed the brakes on but then released them a moment later once. In each event a very near collision with other vehicles was almost caused. There are other drivers that use this truck that have reported similar events (5 or 6), but I cannot say for certain what the exact circumstances were in those events. This vehicle is available for inspection if requested. A dealer has not confirmed the problem, each time they report that the system in functioning correctly. The vehicle has not been inspected by any entity other than the dealer. No symptoms prior, only a red collision warning light in the gauge cluster and a warning beep at the immediate time of the event.;
2018 WESTERN STAR 4700 Complaints
The contact was driving the company's vehicle which was a 2018 Western Star 4700. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph at a curve and suddenly the front passenger tire began to wobble. The contact lost control of the vehicle's steering ability. The contact stated the vehicle began to lose complete control and then flipped over to the right side. The air bags did not deploy. The contact had injuries to their shoulder and medical attention was not needed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed. The vehicle had not been deemed totaled. The contact stated they were told by the owner of the vehicle that the dealer was made aware of the failure, however, the diagnosis was unknown. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 247,000.;
2018 WESTERN STAR 5700 Complaints
The contact owns a 2018 Western Star 5700. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the On Guard radar system became inoperable. The contact stated that the feature independently activated the brake. The contact stated that the failure had been ongoing since 2018. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that he contacted On Guard, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 700.;
