FCA US LLC (Alfa Romeo) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and 2017-2019 Giulia vehicles. The Brake System Module (BSM) software may prevent the driver from disabling the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) after the traction control system detects a specific wheel slip.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 19,114 units affected.

Description:: FCA US LLC (Alfa Romeo) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and 2017-2019 Giulia vehicles. The Brake System Module (BSM) software may prevent the driver from disabling the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) after the traction control system detects a specific wheel slip.
Consequeces:: The driver's inability to deactivate the ACC can increase the risk of crash.
Corrective action:: Alfa Romeo has notified owners, and dealers will update the BSM software, free of charge. The recall began March 25, 2019. Owners may contact Alfa Romeo customer service 1-800-853-1403. The Alfa Romeo number for this recall is V27.

2019 ALFA ROMEO GIULIA Complaints
1. The fuel delivery/fuel pressure system is malfunctioning. The vehicle has experienced fuel-pressure related diagnostic trouble codes, loss of power, stalling, and limp mode. The fuel pressure sensor was replaced, but the same diagnostic codes and symptoms continued. The symptoms are consistent with the fuel delivery module/fuel pump defect described in NHTSA recall 25V586. The vehicle and affected components are available for inspection upon request. 2. The vehicle repeatedly enters limp mode and has experienced loss of power, stalling, and severe shifting problems, especially with low fuel. I have had to drive 20–30 miles on the freeway while unable to accelerate or shift normally, nearly causing multiple accidents around traffic and semi-trucks. I regularly transport my family and children, greatly increasing the safety risk from an unexpected loss of power or stalling. 3. No. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. However, the vehicle has experienced repeated loss of power, stalling, limp mode, and shifting problems, along with the same two fuel-pressure related diagnostic trouble codes. The fuel pressure sensor was replaced, but the codes and symptoms remained. 4. No. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or an insurance representative. 5. Yes. The check-engine light appeared with codes P018D and P018B. The vehicle subsequently experienced limp mode, loss of power, stalling, and severe shifting issues, especially with low fuel. Replacing the fuel pressure sensor did not resolve the codes or symptoms.;
2019 ALFA ROMEO STELVIO Complaints
1. COMPONENT FAILED & INSPECTION: The transmission ground strap (uninsulated, bare braided copper cable) completely corroded/severed from environmental decay. This open ground circuit forced high engine-cranking currents into secondary low-voltage paths, causing an extreme thermal surge that melted and shorted out the main engine compartment wiring harness. Both failed components are preserved by the owner and are available for forensic inspection upon request. 2. SAFETY RISK: This manufacturing flaw causes a severe thermal fire hazard and an instantaneous, catastrophic loss of all vehicle propulsion, power steering, braking assist, and lighting systems while operating on public roadways. This abrupt deactivation threatens occupant safety and surrounding traffic by risking high-speed highway collisions or engine bay fires without warning. 3. CONFIRMATION: The exact failure cascade was formally diagnosed, itemized, and verified by Maranello Alfa Romeo of [XXX] ([XXX]) under a repair estimate of $7,203.10. 4. INSPECTIONS: Formally inspected by factory-certified technicians at the local authorized dealership center. No insurance, police, or outside authority investigations have occurred yet, as the car was towed immediately to avoid an active open highway fire. 5. SYMPTOMS & WARNINGS: There were absolutely no warning lamps, messages, check engine lights, or symptoms prior to the incident. Failure occurred instantly on XXX. The vulnerability was hidden from plain sight until the primary ground pathway severed completely during engine startup. 6. MANUFACTURER KNOWLEDGE: Alfa Romeo engineering has recognized this danger on 2017-early 2023 models, releasing a redesigned, fully sheathed/insulated ground cable (Part No. 68648999AA) to prevent this environmental decay.
