Volvo Cars USA LLC (Volvo Cars) is recalling certain 2019-2020 S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, S90L, V90, V90 Cross Country, XC40, XC60, and XC90 vehicles. Due to a software/hardware incompatibility, the Automatic Emergency Brake (AEB) system may not detect obstacles and engage as intended.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 121,605 units affected.

Description:: Volvo Cars USA LLC (Volvo Cars) is recalling certain 2019-2020 S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, S90L, V90, V90 Cross Country, XC40, XC60, and XC90 vehicles. Due to a software/hardware incompatibility, the Automatic Emergency Brake (AEB) system may not detect obstacles and engage as intended.
Consequeces:: If the automatic emergency braking system does not engage as intended, it can increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will update the Active Safety Domain Master (ASDM) software, free of charge. The recall began April 9, 2020. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R29998.

2020 VOLVO S60 Complaints
On two separate occasions in the past two months June 6 and Aug. 15, this vehicle experienced a severe unintended engine surge / unintended acceleration event while at a complete stop with my foot firmly on the brake. On both occasions, the engine RPMs spiked above 1,000 RPM, forcing the vehicle to pull heavily against the brakes as if trying to race forward into the intersection. On the most recent event (Aug. 15) when stopping at a red light it appeared that the supercharger kicked in, pulling against the brakes. Six or eight pedestrians were crossing directly in front of the vehicle. If I had taken my foot of the brake I would have hit them. 1.June 12, 2026 Service Visit (RO #192480, attached): Following the June 6 incident, the vehicle was brought to Beyer Volvo Cars Falls Church, Va. The repair order explicitly notes:"Tech found the front sunroof drains to have clogged with dirt/debris and the floorboard to be full of water.""Interior was removed to dry out carpets and the sunroof drains were cleared." Clogged sunroof drains cause water ingress down the A pillar. 2.Diagnostic Code & Part Replacement: During this visit, fault code 161615 was retrieved. The technician noted "unable to duplicate the problem at this time" regarding the engine flare, and no physical inspection or remediation of the flooded wiring harnesses or module connectors beneath the carpet was performed. This same A6 electrical code 161615 was noted on a previous service on 25 Sep. 2025, (RO#184284, attached). There is clear precedent with NHTSA Recall 22V-288 (of a different Volvo model, the XC40), where water intrusion into Volvo wiring harnesses caused corrosion and unintended acceleration. Given that my passenger footwell flooded prior to the engine surge, the CAN bus harness and floor connectors beneath that carpet must undergo a full electrical continuity and corrosion inspection, not just a surface drying. I am requesting further service by the dealer.;
2020 VOLVO S90 Complaints
While driving on a rainy day my forward collision warning (FCW) system cam on signifying and impending collision via the "Red Warning Vehicle Crash" in the heads-up display. The car started to automatically break as well. There were no other vehicles in my land or close to me at the time. It was purely heavy rain. This is not the first occurrence of the FCW system engaging automatically. The same situation occurs during heavy rains or if water splashes from the other land in front of the car. The situation seems similar to the Hyundai recall just issued by NHSTA https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCLRPT-26V316-9486.pdf Luckily I have avoided being rear ended as no one has been close to me or they have been able to react to the sudden unexpected deceleration of my vehicle without my intervention or desire to do so. I ask NHTSA to broaden its investigation into other vehicles as this seems to be an issue across vehicle platforms and manufacturers.;
2020 VOLVO V60 Complaints
I took my car in for the 90,000 mile general service at the Volvo dealership. While rotating my tires the tech providing the service noted that the front left suspension fork was broken. The tech and Volvo were unable to provide an explanation for how the damage could have occurred. There was no other notable damage. The tire pressure light was on but that is baseline for my car (the tire pressure gauge is sensitive and usually turns on as soon as I adjust the tire pressure). I provided a picture of the suspension fork to a friend who works in the industry and they recommended reporting it. The part seems to have sheared and given that nothing around it is damaged, I believe and am concerned that this cast aluminum part had a manufacturing defect.;
2020 VOLVO V60CC Complaints
Occurring 7/10/2025 WATER LEAK CONCERN:: mildew smell coming from the vehicle, trunk is wet and smelling mildew. have gaps on the rear sunroof glass seal. recommend replacing rear sunroof glass seal, replaced all the drain hoses, remove all the carpets and dry them—water incursion may have affected electrical systems responsible for safety and driving. In Volvo's Service and Parts Business Technical Journal Title: Panoramic sunroof, sealing strip has a gap Ref No: TJ 35503.3.0 the description states: "If the customer complain about that the sealing strip in rear end of panoramic sunroof is too short, or if the short sealing strips cause water leaks into the care, please follow advice under Service. Replace the sealing strips and glue it in each end in according to the method in VIDA." Volvo has been aware of the poor panoramic sunroof design which can result in water incursion into the cabin of the vehicle. At no point has Volvo informed the customer or direct service departments to be proactive in addressing the sealing gaps. There is no mention of any maintenance or concerns in the car manual.;
2020 VOLVO V90CC Complaints
Gaps in the sunroof seal caused water to drain from the sunroof to the interior, electrical panel, firewall panel of the car and batteries. All electrical components are damaged because of the water. My car died on a very busy road on Dec. 31, 2024. It is an extremely dangerous rd. I could not leave the vehicle because my special needs son was with me and scared to get out. The car was looked at by the Volvo dealer service manger where we bought the car in Oct., 2023 and has confirmed all damages caused by a deteriorating sunroof seal. ( 2020 model) insurance is planning to look at it but because of the water damage in the interior, the car interior needs to be stripped to check for other damage, corrosion. Warning lights came on a few seconds before the car stopped/ died so there was no time to get to a safe place. Police were on the scene and had to have the car towed out of the way of traffic.;
