BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019 Z4 sDrive30i, 2019-2020 330i xDrive, M340i and M340i xDrive, 2020 X3M and X4M, and Toyota Supra vehicles. In certain driving conditions, such as high temperatures and rough road surfaces, a steering gear tie rod may become damaged, possibly resulting in a fractured tie rod.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 2,779 units affected.

Description:: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019 Z4 sDrive30i, 2019-2020 330i xDrive, M340i and M340i xDrive, 2020 X3M and X4M, and Toyota Supra vehicles. In certain driving conditions, such as high temperatures and rough road surfaces, a steering gear tie rod may become damaged, possibly resulting in a fractured tie rod.
Consequeces:: A damaged or fractured tie rod may affect vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: BMW and Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear tie rods, free of charge. The recall began August 14, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371.

2019 BMW Z4 Complaints
The contact owns a 2019 BMW Z4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V636000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.;
2020 BMW 330I Complaints
The left hydraulic engine motor mount (P/N 22117581621) completely collapsed and failed at 6 years and only 24,811 miles. The right mount was also replaced at the same time (P/N 22117581622). The failure allows unsafe, excessive engine movement and shifting under rotational torque loads. This shifting creates an immediate safety hazard, risking the sudden compromise of surrounding mechanical systems, cooling lines, and electrical harnesses while the vehicle is in motion. BMW North America acknowledged the premature nature of the failure by approving a goodwill repair for the labor costs but forced me to pay out-of-pocket for the defective parts. The engine mount issue was detected when the vehicle went in for normal services and the known recall for the engine starter which had the potential to cause bodily harm as well as property harm due to fire risk, even when the engine was off.;
2020 BMW M340I Complaints
Oil pump for the 2020 model is made with plastic internals. The passage that controls the flow of oil into your engine is made of plastic. The car didn’t even have 40,000 miles and the plastic broke causing the passage to be in a very close to shut position not allowing enough oil to enter the engine in higher rpm. The mechanic told me this is the biggest thing he is starting to see and he works for BMW Service center of Mamaroneck. He’s seen over 150+ B58TU (engine model) of the year 2020 with broken plastic in the oil pump. For the 2021 model year and up to 2026 they have updated the oil pump to metal internals and metal passageways solving the issue but are not helping us 2020 owners and aren’t taking any responsibility blaming it on owners. The repair cost over 3,000 dollars. I understand if it’s something they can’t figure out but they saw it was their own negligence on using better parts and they switch from plastic to metal oil pumps after they saw an increase of over 2,000+ 2020 bmws with the b58tu in it have this issue. There were no warnings, no lights on the dash, no check engine and no codes on the car or when read with a diagnostic scanner. I even included the difference between the 2020 oil pump (plastic) to the 2021 and up oil pump (metal) which was bought from BMW Parts in Mamaroneck. This is an oem part that they updated on their newer cars and won’t take responsibility for their negligence on their 2020 model.;
2020 BMW X3 Complaints
I am reporting a chronic manufacturing defect on my 2020 BMW X3 that poses an immediate electrical short-circuit and vehicle safety hazard. The passenger-side panoramic sunroof drainage system/roof structure leaks water heavily through the side panel joint of the door frame, directly saturating the front passenger floor carpet. This issue has been ongoing since I received the vehicle in 2020.The vehicle has been brought to Kelly BMW of Columbus, Ohio, at least four separate times since 2020 specifically to address this leak. Technicians have replaced outer seals and cleared tracks, but the leak persists, and on the last visit, unqualified dealership staff claimed they "could not find anything wrong. "This is a severe safety risk: BMW places the primary electronic fuse blocks and vital vehicle wiring harnesses directly underneath the front passenger floorboard carpet. Constant water logging in this exact area threatens to cause sudden, catastrophic electrical failures, component shorts, or vehicle stalling while driving. The manufacturer has failed to issue a recall for this known, widespread G01 platform defect, and dealership service centers lack the training to properly diagnose it.;
2020 BMW X4 Complaints
On 8/31/2026 this 2020 BMW X4 was serviced at an authorized dealer (BMW of Tyler) to execute the remedy for official NHTSA Safety Recall Campaign 25V-636 (Engine Starter Relay Fire Risk). INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: Within minutes of picking up the vehicle post-repair and entering an active roadway, the vehicle suffered an immediate, un-warned, total loss of all electrical power. The engine stalled, all digital dashboard instrumentation went black, and power steering/braking assistance were compromised. The vehicle came to a complete stop in moving traffic. The total power failure prevented the activation of hazard lights, rendering the blacked-out vehicle invisible to surrounding traffic and nearly causing a high-speed rear-end collision. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer center. TECHNICAL BASIS FOR DEFECT/WORKMANSHIP FAILURE: Campaign 25V-636 requires replacing or manipulating vulnerable electrical relay and starter assembly points tied directly to the main 12V electrical infrastructure and power distribution system. A total, sudden in-motion electrical blackout strongly indicates an open-circuit failure, improper terminal torque specifications, or damage to the adjacent Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) network occurring during the recall execution. The dealer is attempting to claim a coincidental "faulty battery" caused the in-motion shutdown to avoid workmanship liability. However, a battery failure does not completely choke out a running engine already under alternator load unless an open circuit or severe grounding fault is actively introduced. This incident represents a catastrophic failure directly following the execution of an official federal safety recall remedy.;
