General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2009 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Sierra 2500, Sierra 3500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia or "Zone B." Additionally, GM is recalling certain 2007-2008 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in the states of Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming or "Zone C." These vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated passenger frontal inflators containing phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

The recall was influenced by the Office of Defects Investigation with about 557,023 units affected.

Consequeces:: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.
Corrective action:: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with an alternate one, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on February 23, 2021. Second notification letters will be mailed once the remedy is available. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 20, 2021. 2009 CADILLAC ESCALADE Complaints
The contact owns a 2009 Cadillac Escalade. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the battery was drained. The contact called AAA, who had installed the battery incorrectly. The battery was replaced. While driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle started to shake. The vehicle lost motive power with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who determined that the system needed to be reset, and the vehicle was working as designed. The failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the cylinder head was cracked, and the air compressor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.;
2009 CADILLAC ESCALADE ESV Complaints
INITIALLY MY FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. I ASSUMED IT FAILED AND WAS GOING TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE FOLLOWING DAY WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL GAUGE ISSUE. I WAS ON MY WAY TO DROP THE CAR OFF AT THE DEALER THE SAME DAY AND WHILE DRIVING A WARNING MESSAGE STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL WAS INOPERABLE, IT THEN WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I BARELY MADE IT OFF THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I PULLED INTO A SAFE LOCATION I HEARD A POP UNDER THE CAR AND EVERYTHING STARTED SHUTTING DOWN. THE ENGINE STARTED SPUTTERING, EVENTUALLY QUITTING. I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND AFTER CRAWLING AROUND I NOTICED THE WIRING CLIPS HOLDING THE WIRE LOOM ABOVE THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT HAD FAILED. THE WIRING LOOM HAS ENOUGH SLACK IN IT TO THEN WRAP ITSELF AROUND THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT, FINALLY SNAPPING THE WIRES. A TOTAL OF 9 WIRES SNAPPED. THIS IS MOST LIKELY ONLY AN ISSUE FOR THOSE WITH AWD AS IT WAS THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT THAT THE WIRES FINALLY WRAPPED AROUND AND CAUSED MULTIPLE SYSTEMS TO FAIL IMMEDIATELY. LUCKILY IT WAS DURING THE DAY IN AN AREA I WAS FAMILIAR WITH. HAD THIS HAPPENED AT NIGHT OR ON A TRIP, THIS COULD HAVE TURNED INTO AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT ISSUE. A MUCH MORE DANGEROUS ONE.;
2009 CADILLAC ESCALADE EXT Complaints
The contact owns a 2009 Cadillac Escalade EXT equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Energy Saver A/S, Tire Size: P265/65/R18, DOT Number: M3KA. The contact stated the tires contain a tire identification number (TIN) that is missing the 4-digit week and year code mark. As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 574, "Tire Identification & Recordkeeping." Missing TIN information can make it difficult for tire owners to determine the age of the tires and/or identify the tire in the event of a recall, increasing the risk of driving with unsafe tires which could result in a crash. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified the missing TIN information. The tires were not replaced purchased at the dealer on April 12, 2019. The tires were replacement tires. The tire failure mileage was 0. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 93,345. The VIN was not available.;
2009 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE Complaints
The passenger side air bag was replaced under a current recall (N212328790) however, once they fixed the issue at Love Chevy (Inverness, FL), the air bag light stayed on. It has never shut off and after speaking with the dealership as well as Chevrolet, they refuse to fix the issue they caused. I do not know if the recall has actually been fixed. Additionally, I am unable to refuel appropriately due to another recall (that my vehicle apparently isn't a part of), however, based on the amount of people that have the same problem, it should be a wider issued recall. This is for Chevy recall # 08411 for the Fuel System Control Module. It affects the charcoal canister, along with purge value and corresponding lines. Depending on how bad, charcoal canister needs replacement, even possibly the lines, as well as the gas tank. Very expensive fix that Chevy refuses to address. This is a common problem that mechanics see with these vehicles.;
2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 Complaints
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V052000 (Air Bags) while having an inspection completed. After receiving notification of the recall, while driving approximately 35 MPH, the passenger’s side air bag unexpectedly deployed, damaging the dashboard and fracturing the window. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 146,000.;
