General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 2500, Sierra 3500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in the states of AL, CA, FL, GA, HI, LA, MS, SC, TX, PR, AS, GU, the MP, and VI or "Zone A." Additionally GM is recalling certain 2011-2014 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 2500, Sierra 3500, Yukon, Yukon XL and 2011-2013 Cadillac Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in the states of AZ, AR, DE, DC, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, MO, NE, NV, NJ, NM, NC, OH, OK, PA, TN, VA, and WV or "Zone B." Additionally, GM is recalling certain 2010-2014 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 2500, Sierra 3500, Yukon, and Yukon XL and 2010-2013 Cadillac Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in the states of AK, CO, CT, ID, IA, ME, MA, MI, MN, MT, NH, NY, ND, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WA, WI, and WY or "Zone C." These vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated passenger frontal inflators containing phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

The recall was influenced by the Office of Defects Investigation with about 1,778,128 units affected.

Consequeces:: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.
Corrective action:: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with an alternate one, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on February 25, 2021. Second notification letters will be mailed once the remedy is available. Owner notification letters were mailed to 40 VIN owners on May 11, 2021. A second owner notification letter was mailed to all other owners on January 24, 2022. 2013 CADILLAC ESCALADE EXT Complaints
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CADILLAC ESCALADE EXT. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. DIMMITT CADILLAC OF ST. PETERSBURG (3333 GANDY BLVD D, PINELLAS PARK, FL 33781, (727) 493-5067) WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE FUEL CONTROL MODULE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. 2013 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE Complaints
I had an auto accident that totaled my vehicle (2013 Chevy Avalanche). It was t-boned by the other vehicle with significant damage from the front quarter panel to the rear quarter panel. All on the driver's side. NONE of the airbags deployed in my vehicle. The other vehicle that hit me had all of the air bags deployed. I had my passenger airbag replaced, based on a manufacturers recall, this past summer 09/26/2025 at a certified Chevy dealer. At that time, they said everything was replaced that needed to be and confirmed that everything was working. Because NONE of the airbags deployed in my vehicle, I sustained minor injuries, i.e. cuts, bruises, etc. and my passenger sustained minor injuries as well, i.e. bruises and neck pain. At the time of the accident, there were no warning lights or messages related to air bags. All manufacturers recalls were already applied to the vehicle and the airbags were supposedly in good condition only months before the accident (i.e. 09/26/2025).;
2013 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 Complaints
The vehicle's structural frame rails have suffered a catastrophic failure. The driver-side frame rail has a physical separation gap measuring between 1/2-inch and 1 inch wide. The passenger-side frame rail is actively delaminating and separating from the inside out. The vehicle and the failed component are completely intact and available for immediate inspection upon request. SAFETY RISK TO OTHERS:The structural integrity of the truck is entirely gone, creating an extreme safety hazard. If driven, the frame is at risk of snapping completely in half, which would cause an immediate, catastrophic loss of steering, suspension control, and braking on public roads, risking a fatal crash for the occupants and nearby drivers. CONFIRMATION BY A SERVICE CENTER:The problem has not been visually confirmed via a safety inspection. The catastrophic splitting aligns exactly with the premature corrosion patterns caused by the failing factory wax defect openly documented by General Motors in Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 19-NA-255.4. INSPECTION BY MANUFACTURER/POLICE/INSURANCE:The vehicle has not yet been inspected by General Motors corporate, local police, or insurance representatives. It was immediately deemed unroadworthy and taken off public roads and parked. WARNING LAMPS AND PRIOR SYMPTOMS: There were no warning lamps, or dashboard messages. The only symptoms was when going over a bump it made a weird noises which was inspected and found the crumbling/failing frame. Because the multi-layered steel frame rots from the inside out due to moisture trapped behind the defective factory wax coating, the structural failure remained entirely invisible until the frame physically cracked open and separated.;
2013 GMC SIERRA 1500 Complaints
Failure of frame on left side of vehicle between frame rail and fuel tank. For a approx 10 year old vehicle that is garaged and does not drive in inclement weather this SHOULD NOT be happening.;
2014 CADILLAC ESCALADE Complaints
While driving my 2016 Cadillac Escalade with a6.2L V8 engine on [XXX] near Bristow, Oklahoma at approximately 75 mph, the vehicle suddenly and completely lost power. Without any prior warning or unusual noises, the engine shut down, and I lost power to the dashboard and power steering. This caused the vehicle to decelerate rapidly, making it extremely difficult to control. I managed to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the highway, narrowly avoiding a collision due to the loss of control. The vehicle could not be restarted. The affected components seem to include the engine, electrical system, and steering. These failures put my safety and the safety of others at significant risk due to the sudden and unexpected loss of vehicle control on a busy highway. The vehicle was towed to the nearest Cadillac dealership for inspection and repair. As of now, the dealership has been unable to determine the cause of the engine failure despite conducting multiple tests and inspections. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure. The dealership has confirmed the issue but has not identified the root cause.
