PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Kenworth T680, T880, W990, T800, W900 and Peterbilt 579, 567, 389, 367 vehicles equipped with a Cummins X15 engine. The capscrews that attach the flywheel to the crankshaft may have been improperly torqued, allowing the flywheel to detach.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 132 units affected.

Description:: PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Kenworth T680, T880, W990, T800, W900 and Peterbilt 579, 567, 389, 367 vehicles equipped with a Cummins X15 engine. The capscrews that attach the flywheel to the crankshaft may have been improperly torqued, allowing the flywheel to detach.
Consequeces:: A detached flywheel can cause loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, driveline pieces may be ejected from the engine compartment, increasing the risk of injury.
Corrective action:: PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will properly torque the capscrews and the engine will also be inspected for damage and, if necessary, repaired, free of charge. The recall began on March 29, 2021. Owners may contact PACCAR customer service at 1-425-828-5888 (Kenworth) or 1-940-591-4220 (Peterbilt). PACCAR's numbers for this recall are 21KWA and 21PBB.

2022 KENWORTH T680 Complaints
I drive a 2022 Kenworth T680 equipped with a Bendix collision mitigation / automatic emergency braking system. On multiple occasions, the system has applied the service brakes hard with no real obstacle in front of the truck, creating a serious rear-end collision risk for vehicles behind me. The events typically occur in rain, fog, or under overpasses and signs at highway speeds with cruise control engaged. The truck suddenly brakes without warning or driver input, dropping speed rapidly in the travel lane while traffic is following. I have documented dates, locations, weather, and traffic conditions for these incidents. In each case, there was no stopped or slowing vehicle in my lane that justified automatic emergency braking. This appears to be a “false positive” AEB activation similar to those NHTSA is already investigating on other Class 8 tractors, where the system misidentifies harmless objects or roadway features and commands an unnecessary stop. These false activations put me and other motorists at risk of a rear-end crash. The dealer has indicated they are limited in how much they can disable the system for liability reasons, so I am submitting this as a safety defect report and requesting that NHTSA investigate this behavior on Kenworth T680 trucks with this collision mitigation system.;
2022 KENWORTH W900 Complaints
Driving a 2022 Kenworth w900 studio sleep. Stopped for fuel, fixed coffee, and walked my dog. Thirteen miles later the truck just started vibrating and immediately took a left turn into the center barrior. The truck hasnt even had its first oil change. Front BUMPERS and fenders had mimimal damge.the front sterring sytem and tires were demolishes as was the roof of truck. My team member driver suffered 9 fracured ribs and still has complications most everyday Truck had post accident report by az dept of public saftey #3 on that report says missing or defective part.;
