BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022 4 Series Gran Coupe (430i, 430i xDrive, M440i xDrive); 2019-2022 X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, X5 xDrive50i, X5 M50i, X5M; 2021-2022 X5 xdrive45e; 2020-2022 X6 sDrive40i, X6 xDrive40i, X6 xDrive50i, X6M and 2019-2023 X7 xDrive40i, X7 xDrive50i, X7 M50i, X7 xDrive60i, X7 M60i, X7M, Alpina XB7 vehicles. The roof function control unit may be programmed incorrectly, allowing the sunroof to close without the key fob present inside the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 118, "Power-Operated Window Systems."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 61,221 units affected.

Consequeces:: A sunroof that closes without the key fob present inside the vehicle can increase the risk of injury.
Corrective action:: Dealers will reprogram the roof function control unit, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 20, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

2022 BMW 430I Complaints
COMPONENT: Engine mounts (left and right hydraulic engine mounts). Both are still installed on the vehicle and are available for inspection on request. FAILURE DESCRIPTION: I began hearing a knocking noise from the engine bay whenever I accelerated. I first noticed it on approximately August 19, 2026. The noise occurred under acceleration only and was not present at idle. There were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or check engine indicators at any point before or after the noise began, and none are present now. The knocking noise was the only symptom. CONFIRMED BY DEALER: Yes. I brought the vehicle to Long Beach BMW Service Center on August 29, 2026 at 31,990 miles. The technician inspected the vehicle and found that the left engine mount had collapsed and was leaking hydraulic fluid, and that the right engine mount was deteriorating toward the same condition. The finding is documented on repair order 952722, which I can provide. OTHER INSPECTIONS: The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. I have contacted BMW of North America Customer Relations regarding the failure. SAFETY CONCERN: A collapsed engine mount allows excessive engine and drivetrain movement under acceleration and load. This transmits shock into surrounding components and can lead to damage of adjacent lines, wiring, and exhaust components over time. The condition also produces unpredictable drivetrain movement during acceleration, which affects vehicle stability and driver control. ADDITIONAL CONTEXT: The vehicle was purchased new in October 2021 and has 31,000 miles. It has never been in an accident, has never been modified or tuned, and has been driven lightly and conservatively. A hydraulic engine mount failing at this mileage under these conditions is not consistent with normal wear. Both mounts failed or began failing simultaneously.;
2022 BMW X5 Complaints
Front differentials failed at 31k miles. Potential for the car to lock up or break down in highway. Problem was confirmed by independent shop.;
2022 BMW X6 Complaints
The contact owns a 2022 BMW X6. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH on the highway, the vehicle lost power, and the contact was unable to maneuver the vehicle or accelerate as needed. The heat management module warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and caused the vehicle to lose motive power. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure was confirmed by the dealer. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle under reduced power. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle returned to normal operation; however, the failure recurred.;
2023 BMW X7 Complaints
On May 28, 2025, my 2023 BMW X7 underwent BMW recall B340224. Repair Order 669956 specifically states: “0077067 REPLACING INTEGRATED BRAKING SYSTEM.” After this recall repair and replacement of the Integrated Braking System, the vehicle began experiencing abnormal and potentially dangerous braking behavior that did not exist before the recall repair. The brake pedal can initially feel unusually soft or have excessive travel, followed by sudden and aggressive braking. In slow traffic and stop-and-go driving, the brakes can also feel as if they are sticking or not releasing normally, causing the vehicle to jerk when stopping or starting. The problem is significantly worse in hot weather and heavy traffic. After approximately 10 miles of highway driving, the braking behavior may temporarily improve. I have repeatedly reported that these symptoms began after BMW replaced the Integrated Braking System under recall B340224. Despite multiple service visits and substantial repairs, the safety problem remains unresolved. Most importantly, I have repeatedly asked BMW to investigate the Integrated Braking System that was replaced under the recall as the possible source of the problem. BMW has not properly investigated or addressed that component despite the clear timing between the recall repair and the onset of the braking symptoms. Most recently, the vehicle was left with the BMW dealer for approximately one week regarding this continuing safety complaint, but no repair or meaningful inspection of the Integrated Braking System was performed before I retrieved the vehicle. The vehicle and the replaced braking system remain available for inspection. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the Integrated Braking System replacement performed under recall B340224, or the recall remedy itself, may be related to this continuing braking safety defect.;
