Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2022 AMG EQS53

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2022 AMG EQS53, EQS580, EQS450, 2021 S500, S580, and Maybach S580 vehicles. The rearview camera may not display the rearview image due to a software error in the MBUX multimedia system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 8,530 units affected.

Description:: Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2022 AMG EQS53, EQS580, EQS450, 2021 S500, S580, and Maybach S580 vehicles. The rearview camera may not display the rearview image due to a software error in the MBUX multimedia system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequeces:: An inoperative rearview camera display reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will update the MBUX multimedia system software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 19, 2022. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2022080002.

The contact owns a 2021 Mercedes-Benz. The contact stated while driving at 10 MPH, the vehicle stalls until the contact engages the vehicle in sport mode. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V704000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The failure mileage was 20,700.;

2022 MERCEDES-BENZ AMG EQS 53 Complaints
On [XXX] my 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS unexpectedly surged forward while I was stationary in a drive-through lane, immediately after pressing the "P" (Park) button. There was no audible or visual collision warning, and no automatic braking intervention occurred. My wife was in the front passenger seat and did not observe any foot movement or pedal input that would have triggered acceleration. The surge was strong enough to push the vehicle in front of me into another car ahead of it. There were no injuries, but the event was violent and completely unexpected. The vehicle is currently at AutoNation Collision in Sarasota, Florida, with approximately $18,750 in front-end damage. Progressive is handling the insurance claim. I am concerned about a potential malfunction in the forward collision system or an unintended acceleration event. 2022 MERCEDES-BENZ EQS 450+ Complaints
The speed limit indicator included in the software package flashes constantly (approximately once per second), both inside the instrument cluster and in the Heads Up Display. The speed limit shown is almost always not accurate to the current speed limit, even when passing multiple very clear road signs showing the speed limit. The car still flashes when the speed limit it is showing is not being exceeded. Furthermore, when it cannot read the speed limit, the indicator will often flash road signs for other countries. All of this is happening within the field of view of the driver due to the Heads Up Display, causing a visual distraction which could result in accident. Mercedes and the dealer are aware of the issue, and according to my local dealer Mercedes promised to fix it last year, and then promised again to fix it by Q1 of 2026, both deadlines having passed. This same information was corroborated by a post on Reddit from a user who spoke with Mercedes. When I spoke to Mercedes support on the phone they indicated that my particular car was not even supposed to have this road sign feature, so the fact that it is appearing on my car is incorrect.;
