Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 Golf GTI, Jetta GLI, Jetta NF, Arteon FL, Tiguan LWB, 2022 Taos, Jetta PA, Tiguan PA, 2021-2022 Atlas Cross Sport, and Atlas FL vehicles. The manufacturing process of the eMMC memory module in the infotainment system may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 43,091 units affected.

Description:: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 Golf GTI, Jetta GLI, Jetta NF, Arteon FL, Tiguan LWB, 2022 Taos, Jetta PA, Tiguan PA, 2021-2022 Atlas Cross Sport, and Atlas FL vehicles. The manufacturing process of the eMMC memory module in the infotainment system may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequeces:: A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will update the infotainment software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 16, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 91DV.

Date: March 9, 2026 FORMAL COMPLAINT: Safety Concern Regarding Unintended Acceleration** Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2021 Volkswagen Arteon VIN: [XXX] Purchased From: Clay Cooley Volkswagen (October 2024) To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally report a series of escalating electrical and mechanical failures regarding my 2021 Volkswagen Arteon. While the vehicle initially presented minor electrical glitches, the situation has recently devolved into a severe safety hazard that puts my life, and the lives of others, at risk. Timeline of Issues: Since my purchase in October 2024, I have experienced the following: * Infotainment Failure: The radio display frequently fails to render images or remains unresponsive. * Key Recognition Issues: The vehicle intermittently fails to recognize the key fob is present, leading to ignition delays. * Unintended Acceleration: Most critically, as of today, [XXX], the vehicle has spontaneously accelerated three times immediately upon being shifted from Park into Drive, without any input on the accelerator pedal. Urgent Safety Request The sudden, unexpected acceleration is a catastrophic failure of the vehicle's drive system. I no longer feel safe operating this vehicle, nor do I feel comfortable allowing my family to use it. This is a critical liability that must be addressed before an accident results in property damage, injury, or loss of life. I am requesting an immediate investigation into these malfunctions. I expect a prompt response regarding: 1. A safe method for transporting the vehicle to a certified technician (towing). 2. A comprehensive diagnostic review of the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and throttle assembly. 3. I bought a 2021 VW Jetta GLI in June 2021. There was a recall notice issued in August regarding issues with the front airbag not deploying and/or unexpectedly deploying. I took the car to VW of Kearny Mesa in San Diego, CA, in September 2021. They made the appointment, then when I was at the dealership they said the fix wasn't available. I brought the car in again for repair in February 2022, this time to Mission Bay VW also in San Diego. The car is still with the dealer with no estimated time of completion due to the repair being "extensive.";

Component: The MIB3 Infotainment Head Unit (specifically the internal eMMC memory chip) and the motorized rearview camera trunk emblem assembly.Inspection: Yes, the vehicle and all malfunctioning components are fully available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?Risk: The backup camera screen completely freezes or goes black when reversing, causing a total loss of rear visibility that violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111 and creates an immediate pedestrian strike hazard. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?Confirmation: Yes. The authorized Volkswagen dealership confirmed the system defect, performed the factory safety recall software update, and witnessed the failure continue immediately after the service. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?Inspection: Yes, it was inspected and worked on by the authorized Volkswagen dealership service technicians. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?Symptoms: The infotainment screen repeatedly freezes or turns black, and the motorized rear camera cover physically sticks wide open. Timeline/Details: These issues began during routine operation. The dealership attempted a temporary fix by replacing the electrical fuse, but the short circuit caused the replacement fuses to blow twice in a row, confirming a permanent internal hardware failure that should be covered as a failed recall remedy under manufacturer warranty.;

The infotainment head unit crashes and reboots intermittently, sometimes within minutes of starting the vehicle. When it crashes while the vehicle is in reverse, the rearview camera image freezes on screen or goes completely black. The vehicle is available for inspection on request. This is a safety risk because the camera provides no usable image at the moment it is needed. A frozen image is worse than a black one, since it shows a stale view of the area behind the vehicle that looks normal. I back out of a residential driveway daily and have two young children. The system has malfunctioned since delivery. O'Meara Volkswagen of Thornton, CO worked on it several times under warranty for related CarPlay and navigation faults and applied software updates that did not fix it. In June 2026 Volkswagen pushed an over-the-air update, bringing the unit to software 0890, the current level for this vehicle. The crashes and camera failures have continued for months since. No open recalls apply to my VIN. There is no warning lamp or message beforehand. The screen simply freezes or goes black, then reboots, taking about [30 seconds] to return. Early symptoms were CarPlay dropouts and navigation problems shortly after delivery, progressing to full system crashes over the past year.;
2022 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS CROSS SPORT Complaints
I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, VIN: [XXX] The vehicle was purchased new in October 2021. Volkswagen issued Recall 13i4 / NHTSA Campaign 22V-753 for certain Atlas Cross Sport vehicles due to an engine connecting rod/connecting rod bearing manufacturing defect that can cause engine failure, loss of motive power while driving, and potential safety risks. My vehicle was inspected by an authorized Volkswagen dealer under Recall 13i4 in 2023. I was told the recall condition was not present and the recall was marked completed. On or about [XXX], the vehicle developed the exact issue covered by Recall 13i4. I brought it to an authorized Volkswagen dealer, and the dealer confirmed that the failure is the same engine connecting rod/connecting rod bearing issue identified in the recall. The required repair is engine replacement. Volkswagen is refusing to reopen or reauthorize the recall repair because the recall was previously marked completed after the 2023 inspection and because the factory warranty expired in October 2025. I am now being told I may be responsible for the engine replacement cost, even though the dealer has confirmed this is the exact safety defect covered by the recall. I believe this is a failed or inadequate recall remedy. The 2023 inspection did not permanently remedy the defect and appears to have missed a latent manufacturing issue that has now manifested. This is not a normal out-of-warranty mechanical failure. It is the specific safety-related defect Volkswagen reported to NHTSA. I am asking NHTSA to review whether Volkswagen’s Recall 13i4 remedy process is inadequate, especially for vehicles that passed the initial inspection but later develop the same covered engine defect.
