Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling certain 2022 Rav4

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Rav4, Rav4 Hybrid, and Rav4 Prime vehicles. The front passenger seat may have been assembled with interference between internal parts that may cause the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor to incorrectly detect the occupant. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 3,533 units affected.

Description:: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Rav4, Rav4 Hybrid, and Rav4 Prime vehicles. The front passenger seat may have been assembled with interference between internal parts that may cause the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor to incorrectly detect the occupant. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Consequeces:: Incorrect detection of an occupant may result in improper air bag deployment during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Corrective action:: Dealers will inspect and repair the front passenger seat, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 2, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 22TA08.

2022 TOYOTA RAV4 Complaints
Idling, received a warning of "engine stopped. steering power low". Trying to restart the car - it would start up then immediately shut down w/ the same error. Letting it sit for 15 minutes allowed it to reset and start again. It was raining at the time, wind shield wipers were on if that matters.;
2022 TOYOTA RAV4 HYBRID Complaints
The contact owns a 2022 Toyota RAV4. The contact stated while the contact's wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the error message indicated that a malfunction in the pre-collision system. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed forward recognition camera. The contact was informed that the forward recognition camera needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was a known failure of the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. In addition, the contact requested a good will repair, however the request was denied. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline and report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.;
2022 TOYOTA RAV4 PRIME Complaints
I was beginning to slowly back out of a parking space in a super market parking lot. I had not put my foot on the accelerator because my car begins to slowly inch backwards once it is put into reverse. As the car began to inch backwards, I saw a car approaching down the parking lot driveway behind me. I immediately stepped on my brake, but instead of stopping, my car began to race backwards, accelerating at a fast speed. The car never responded when I put my foot on the brake, so I was unable to stop the car. This caused me to crash into the car driving past me, and that finally stopped the car. Because I was almost perpendicular to the car I hit, and the driver was unable to get out of his car, I then put my car into drive to move it out of the way. My car accelerated out of control, again, this time forward. Again, it did not respond when I put my foot on the brake. My out of control car was quickly heading toward a large metal fire gate. In complete desperation, I stomped very hard on the brake, pressing it to the floor as I was about to hit the gate, and the car finally stopped. In both incidents, my brakes completely failed to stop the car accelerator which was acting on its own. The problem has not been reproduced by Toyota, which says there is nothing wrong with the car. However the data report they gave us is suspect because the data shows no reverse movement of the car and labels the accident a rollover, which it was not. In addition, the inspector told my husband there were more tests he could do, but Toyota had not authorized him to do them. There is a police report, and a witness who observed the whole thing. She said that because of the way the car was moving, it looked like a hit and run accident with the driver trying to make a speedy getaway. There were no warning lights or messages displayed.;
