BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2023 iX xDrive40, iX xDrive50, iX M60, i4 eDrive35, i4 eDrive40, i4 M50, and 2023 i7 xDrive60 vehicles. The high voltage battery electronic control unit (ECU) software may cause an interruption of electrical power.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 14,086 units affected.

Description:: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2023 iX xDrive40, iX xDrive50, iX M60, i4 eDrive35, i4 eDrive40, i4 M50, and 2023 i7 xDrive60 vehicles. The high voltage battery electronic control unit (ECU) software may cause an interruption of electrical power.
Consequeces:: An interruption of electrical power may result in a sudden loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will update the high voltage battery ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 10, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

2023 BMW I4 Complaints
The steering wheel would suddenly become stiff (frozen or locked) during normal driving especially during turning. When it happened, I lost total control of the car causing dangerous situations on the road. A warning message appeared stating: "Changed steering effort, drive moderately and contact service center." At a BMW dealership, the problem was reproduced and confirmed. They replaced 12 Volt battery, and the car was released. The new 12 volt battery didn't help the steeling issue. After a few weeks, the steeling system completely failed. The car has to be towed to BMW dealership for repair. It was identified that the steeling issue was caused by premature failure of the BMW electronic power steering system.;
2023 BMW I7 Complaints
The contact owns a 2023 BMW i7. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V104000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. VIN tool confirms parts not available.;
2023 BMW IX Complaints
THIS VEHICLE HAD A BRIEF WARNING TO STOP DRIVING AND QUICKLY LOST ANY POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. THERE WERE DEFINITE SAFTEY CONCERNS TO MYSELF AND OTHERS REGARDING COLLISION POTENTIAL. THE PROBLEM IS CONFIRMED IN MULTIPLE ELECTRIC BMW IX MODELS BY DEALERS AND OTHER OWNERS. BMW HAS CONFIRMED DRIVE CHAIN FAILURE RELATED TO MANUFACTURING DUST IN THE MOTOR OR COOLING PUMP FAILURE. THIS SAFETY PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PRESENT IN IX VEHICLES.;
