Honda is recalling certain 2018-2020 Fit and 2019-2022 HR-V vehicles

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Fit and 2019-2022 HR-V vehicles. The rearview camera image may not display when the engine is started with a key, due to a design error in the audio display power circuit. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 114,686 units affected.

Description:: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Fit and 2019-2022 HR-V vehicles. The rearview camera image may not display when the engine is started with a key, due to a design error in the audio display power circuit. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequeces:: An inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will update the display audio unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 13, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is 6DW. This recall has been superseded by NHTSA recall number 24V-384. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 23V-046 will need to have the new remedy completed under recall 24V-384.

2020 HONDA FIT Complaints
The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system and multipurpose camera unit (part of Honda Sensing) on my 2020 Honda Fit malfunction intermittently. On some engine starts the camera and ACC function normally. On other starts the camera does not work at all and ACC is completely unavailable. The vehicle and the camera/related components remain available for inspection upon request. When the multipurpose camera fails at startup, Adaptive Cruise Control and associated Honda Sensing features are completely unavailable. This removes automatic distance control, forward collision warning, and related driver-assistance functions, creating an increased risk of collision, especially during highway driving or in traffic where those systems are relied upon for maintaining safe following distance and providing warnings. It is easy to reproduce. Sundevil auto sees it when servicing my car. I have spoken with many Honda dealers in the Phoenix AZ area and they all say that it happens a lot and that the only solution is to replace it. The failure is intermittent and occurs only on certain engine starts. On the starts when the system fails, the multipurpose camera does not function at all and Adaptive Cruise Control is unavailable. On other starts the camera and ACC work normally. No consistent prior warning lamps or messages beyond the complete non-function of the camera and ACC on the affected starts have been noted.;
2022 HONDA HR-V Complaints
In January 2026, at approximately 80,000 miles, the CVT in my 2022 Honda HR-V AWD experienced a major internal failure. The failure presents a safety concern because loss of CVT function can cause loss of acceleration/motive power during highway driving, merging, lane changes, or intersection crossings. The problem was confirmed by an authorized Honda dealer. Honda's HDS diagnostic system initially recorded DTC P0793. The dealer inspected/replaced the CVT drive-pully speed sensor and road-tested the vehicle. The repair did not correct the problem, and the "D" indicator began flashing. The dealer then recorded DTCs P0780 and P1899. The dealer drained the CVT fluid and documented on the repair order: "found metal debris in fluid - needs transmission." The dealer determined that the transmission required replacement. Prior to the failure, I had no warning that a catastrophic internal CVT failure was imminent. To my knowledge, American Honda did not perform a physical teardown or examination of the failed transmission beyond the diagnosis. I am concerned because Honda previously identified premature CVT belt deterioration in 2016 -2020 HR-Vs under Service Bulletins 21-046 and 21-047. Honda stated that the earlier condition could result in partial or complete belt failure and unexpected loss of acceleration and extended CVT coverage for affected vehicles to 7 years/150,000 miles. My 2022 HR-V AWD is not included in that population, and I am not claiming that my CVT necessarily failed from the identical cause. However, the dealer-documented metal debris and complete CVT failure warrant comparison with Honda's previously identified HR-V CVT condition and similar failures in 2021 -2022 HR-Vs.;
