BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2019-2022 330i

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2022 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, 2022 430i Coupe, 2021-2022 430i, M440i Convertible, and 2020-2022 228i xDrive Gran Coupe vehicles. The receiver audio module control unit software may fail to properly generate audible seat belt warnings to the driver to fasten their seat belt. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 144 units affected.

Description:: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2022 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, 2022 430i Coupe, 2021-2022 430i, M440i Convertible, and 2020-2022 228i xDrive Gran Coupe vehicles. The receiver audio module control unit software may fail to properly generate audible seat belt warnings to the driver to fasten their seat belt. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Consequeces:: An audible chime that does not properly alert the driver to fasten their seat belt increases the risk of injury in a crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will update the receiver audio module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 12, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

2022 BMW 228I Complaints
We were picking up my wife’s 2022 BMW 228xi after having tinting applied to windows. As I was in the office paying for the work, my wife put her purse in the car and sat in the driver’s seat. She noticed the seat was too low and that her booster pad had been moved to the passenger seat. She had not touched any of the car's controls and was starting to turn to exit the car so she could place the pad in the driver’s seat. As she was beginning to turn, she heard the engine start and the car went into a full throttle acceleration which pushed her against the seat back. Before she could react to try to control the car, it was speeding down the parking lot and in 4 to 5 seconds reached the end of the lot and went over an approximate 40 foot bluff. Airborne, she passed over State Road 1460 and impacted a tree in the forest beyond the road. 911 was called and shortly after the Fire Department arrived to remove my wife from her car. An EMS unit transferred her to the Trauma 1 ER at a nearby hospital to treat her serious injuries. After seventeen days in the hospital she was transferred to a skilled nursing facility to continue her recovery;
2022 BMW 330I Complaints
Approached my parked car and noticed a 2.5-inch gash in the sidewall of the tire. No warning light in dashboard. Tire pressure remained at recommended pressure. Previous driving was on 35 mph local roads with optimal driving conditions--clear weather and no road hazards. Drove vehicle to dealer to have tire replaced. Tire was covered under warranty but incurred labor expenses. (P225/45R18);
2022 BMW 430I Complaints
COMPONENT: Engine mounts (left and right hydraulic engine mounts). Both are still installed on the vehicle and are available for inspection on request. FAILURE DESCRIPTION: I began hearing a knocking noise from the engine bay whenever I accelerated. I first noticed it on approximately August 19, 2026. The noise occurred under acceleration only and was not present at idle. There were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or check engine indicators at any point before or after the noise began, and none are present now. The knocking noise was the only symptom. CONFIRMED BY DEALER: Yes. I brought the vehicle to Long Beach BMW Service Center on August 29, 2026 at 31,990 miles. The technician inspected the vehicle and found that the left engine mount had collapsed and was leaking hydraulic fluid, and that the right engine mount was deteriorating toward the same condition. The finding is documented on repair order 952722, which I can provide. OTHER INSPECTIONS: The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. I have contacted BMW of North America Customer Relations regarding the failure. SAFETY CONCERN: A collapsed engine mount allows excessive engine and drivetrain movement under acceleration and load. This transmits shock into surrounding components and can lead to damage of adjacent lines, wiring, and exhaust components over time. The condition also produces unpredictable drivetrain movement during acceleration, which affects vehicle stability and driver control. ADDITIONAL CONTEXT: The vehicle was purchased new in October 2021 and has 31,000 miles. It has never been in an accident, has never been modified or tuned, and has been driven lightly and conservatively. A hydraulic engine mount failing at this mileage under these conditions is not consistent with normal wear. Both mounts failed or began failing simultaneously.;
2022 BMW M340I Complaints
The starter in my 2022 BMW M340I sedan was faulty after 54,000 miles. It began to take two attempts to start the vehicle each time and was at risk of not starting. The first attempt all electrical components would turn on but the ignition was unable to start the engine. Then the second attempt was generally successful. I took it to the dealer and had to replace my starter to return the vehicle to normal operation. BMW has recalled tens of thousands of other starters including my model but not yet for the 2022 BMW M340i I was told.;
