General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 Buick Encore GX, Envista, and Chevrolet Trax vehicles. The software in the Virtual Cockpit Unit Module (VCU) may cause the instrument panel display to intermittently go blank at vehicle startup or while driving.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 60,154 units affected.

Description:: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 Buick Encore GX, Envista, and Chevrolet Trax vehicles. The software in the Virtual Cockpit Unit Module (VCU) may cause the instrument panel display to intermittently go blank at vehicle startup or while driving.
Consequeces:: A blank instrument panel will not show critical information, such as vehicle speed and warning lights, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: The VCU software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 4, 2023. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is A232424320.

2024 BUICK ENCORE GX Complaints
I recently bought this 2024 Buick Encore GX about a week ago and we decided to take a short trip to [XXX], as we were coming back and was driving downhill, we notice the vehicle was pulling to the left side like a strong wind pulling it. The steering wheel became very stiff and unable to pull back towards the driving lane as my daughter was trying to maneuver back, so she finally slowed down all the way to a full stop as the car approached all the way to the left by pulling hard by itself as my daughter was putting her brakes on. We waited for a few minutes as we turned off the vehicle, then after a few minutes she started back and check the steering by turning both ways to the right and left side, it felt okay then we proceeded back unto the road and came back to [XXX], but it became evening and the panel light came on, within a few hours later the panel light also became blank everything was just dark on the panel, we couldn't see the speeding monitor, the radio panel and the gear light, this happen within 3 minutes then it finally came back on again. This was very terrible and scary. If this vehicle did this to me while I am alone driving it, I wouldn't know what to do, it might kill me. I needed a good vehicle for myself, so I purchased this here in [XXX] and I am a [XXX] woman. this is a terrible vehicle please do a recall and more investigation on this vehicle. I am afraid to own this vehicle now I don't know what to do with it. this kind of vehicle should never be sold at all to the public. 2024 BUICK ENVISTA Complaints
The contact owns a 2024 Buick Envista. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the instrument panel display continued to flicker off and on. The contact stated that during the failure the speedometer and fuel gauges were inoperable. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. Additionally, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the turbo sensor module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V744000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); which was associated with the instrument panel failure. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.;
2024 CHEVROLET TRAX Complaints
2024 Chevrolet Trax 1RS, approximately 66,000 miles. I was driving on the interstate at approximately 77 mph when I suddenly heard a very loud bang from the engine area. Immediately afterward, the vehicle began smoking both inside and outside, and there was a large black cloud of smoke behind the vehicle. The engine stalled and I lost propulsion while traveling at highway speed. I was able to move the vehicle to the side of the interstate. The vehicle then displayed a warning stating, “Oil pressure low, turn car off immediately.” I shut the vehicle off and did not continue driving. The vehicle had to be towed to an authorized Chevrolet dealership. The Chevrolet repair order dated August 10, 2026 documents the concern as a loud engine noise and notes that the tow/wrecker driver reported a hole in the engine block. Chevrolet’s inspection marked the engine oil, fluid leaks, and cooling system as “Alert.” At the same inspection, the engine oil-life monitor showed 93%. Chevrolet recommended removal and replacement of the engine long block. The dealer estimate lists $11,106.14 for the long-block replacement and approximately $13,420.89 in total pending recommendations. GM has agreed to provide partial financial assistance toward the engine replacement, leaving me responsible for approximately $5,200. The replacement engine is currently on backorder, and the vehicle remains inoperable while awaiting an engine. I am filing this complaint because the engine failed suddenly while I was traveling approximately 77 mph on an interstate. The loud mechanical failure, smoke, engine stall, and sudden loss of propulsion created a serious safety risk. I am concerned that this may be related to similar engine failures being reported in Chevrolet vehicles equipped with the 1.2L turbocharged engine. I have retained the Chevrolet inspection report, repair estimate, photographs of the engine following the failure, GM case information, and documentation concerning the replacement.;
