BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 2 Series Coupe (230i), 330i, X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i, and X4 xDrive30i, X4 M40i vehicles. The steering gear may not have been tightened properly, which can allow it to loosen.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 201 units affected.

Description:: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 2 Series Coupe (230i), 330i, X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i, and X4 xDrive30i, X4 M40i vehicles. The steering gear may not have been tightened properly, which can allow it to loosen.
Consequeces:: A loose steering gear can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will replace the steering gear, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 11, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The contact owns a 2024 BMW 230I. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V438000(ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that at start-up, the vehicle was shaking, vibrating, and had shut off unexpectedly. Additionally, while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The failure mileage was 15,000.;
2024 BMW 330I Complaints
The contact owns a 2024 BMW 330I. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse(R), the gear shifter was shifted into reverse; however, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated forward and crashed into another vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. There were no air bags deployed. No injuries were sustained. A Police report was not filed. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.;

The dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure.;
2024 BMW X4 Complaints
Vehicle has intermittent raw fuel odor and shaking at idle. BMW dealership test-drove and scanned but refused further diagnostics under warranty because the issue could not be duplicated. BMW NA case opened. Fuel odor is a fire hazard and shaking at idle is a stall risk.;
