BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2025 i4, 2022-2024 IX, 2023-2024 I7, and 2024 I5 vehicles. The electric drive motor software may shut down the high-voltage system, causing a loss of drive power.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 71,286 units affected.

Description:: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2022-2025 i4, 2022-2024 IX, 2023-2024 I7, and 2024 I5 vehicles. The electric drive motor software may shut down the high-voltage system, causing a loss of drive power.
Consequeces:: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: The electric drive motor software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 5, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

2024 BMW I4 Complaints
On July 4th, 2026 we were driving home in a storm. The windshield wipers failed while in the automatic setting, completely shutting off, creating a safety hazard. We pulled to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. Afther the reboot they had resarted, but agian failed within ten minutes. We pulled over again giving the car more time to cool/reset and contacted BMWs internal SOS service. They could not hear due to the rain coming down on the car. Eventually we were able to proceed home with the wipers on a low setting. We took the vehicle to the dealership. They were unable to reproduce the defect, calling it an anomally in one video. The BMW techs are the only one to have inspected the vehicle. As for warnings, there were none. It was just a system failure mid-storm with no proceeded or forwarned error codes.;
2024 BMW I5 Complaints
While driving under normal conditions at roadway speed, the panoramic sunroof glass suddenly failed with a loud explosive sound. There was no observed impact, no debris strike, and no prior damage to the glass. The failure resulted in a large central blowout with shattered glass and fragments displaced outward from the vehicle. The failed component is the panoramic sunroof glass panel, which remains available for inspection. This incident created a safety risk due to the sudden explosive event while the vehicle was in motion, which could startle the driver and nearby motorists. At the time of the failure, the interior fabric sunshade was closed, which prevented glass from entering the passenger compartment. Had the shade been open, shattered glass would have fallen into the vehicle and could have caused injury to occupants. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure.;

[XXX] Problem: Multiple tire blowouts causing safety hazards and air-suspension damage Complaint Summary: My 2024 BMW i7 has experienced multiple tire blowouts, including the most recent , two within days of each other (12/8/2025 and 12/10/2025). On 12/8/2025, BMW replaced the right rear tire and advised me that the vehicle was safe to drive. Two days later, the left rear tire suffered the same sudden failure, requiring another tow. These failures occurred during normal driving and immediately after BMW dealership inspection and clearance. In addition to these recent events, earlier blowouts on this vehicle have already caused damage to the air-suspension system, requiring repairs. This indicates the issue is not normal tire wear but a recurring safety defect involving the vehicle’s weight, load distribution, tire load rating, or compatibility with the i7’s unusually high curb weight. The repeated failures and resulting suspension damage raise concerns about a broader defect in the design, load-bearing capability, or inspection procedures for this model. This vehicle is unsafe to operate, and the recurring blowouts place my family and other motorists at risk. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the BMW i7 has a systemic safety issue related to tire integrity, load capacity, or suspension stress under normal driving conditions. 2024 BMW IX Complaints
Date and Time: XXX at approximately 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Location: Northbound [XXX]. Vehicle: 2024 BMW iX. Occupants: Driver and driver’s son. Weather/Road Conditions: Very hot and Sunny, in the 97-degree temperature; gusting winds at about 17-miles/hr; the vehicle was traveling at normal highway speed. Incident Description: My son and I were returning home from Wine Valley Golf Club, located at [XXX]. I was driving northbound on [XXX] at approximately 60 mph. A large dump truck approached and passed in the opposite southbound lane at an estimated similar speed. As the vehicles passed, the air displacement and wind gust from the dump truck caused my vehicle to shake noticeably. Instantly at the same time, I heard a loud popping sound from the rear upper portion of my vehicle. Looking behind me, I saw that the rear upper exterior body trim had detached and was lying in the roadway. Immediate Response and Safety Actions: I reduced speed, pulled over when it was safe to do so, and stopped the vehicle. After assessing the situation, I safely turned around and traveled southbound toward the location where the trim had detached. I activated the vehicle’s emergency flashers and stopped on the highway shoulder near the debris. I then retrieved the detached trim from the northbound travel lane. No collision occurred, and neither occupant reported an injury. However, entering the roadway to retrieve the part exposed both my son and me to a serious safety risk from passing traffic. Vehicle Damage and Suspected Cause: The rear upper exterior body trim is detached from the vehicle and requires inspection and repair. The trim separated during normal highway operation without contact from another vehicle or object.
