Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022-2027 R1S, 2022-2026 R1T, and 2027 R2 vehicles. The rearview camera image may be obstructed by a notification when in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 98,828 units affected.

Description:: Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022-2027 R1S, 2022-2026 R1T, and 2027 R2 vehicles. The rearview camera image may be obstructed by a notification when in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequeces:: An obstructed rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Rivian has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 9, 2026. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1866. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 9, 2026.

2026 RIVIAN R1T Complaints
The vehicle consistently will not kneel when parking. This all started after a software update in Feb/2026. Rivian is stating there is nothing wrong and the vehicle is behaving as expected. The vehicle needs to properly kneel so that my passenger can safely exit/enter the vehicle. The problem happens every time I park in my driveway.;
2027 RIVIAN R2 Complaints
I am reporting a suspected passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) malfunction in my 2027 Rivian R2, delivered September 5, 2026. Shortly after delivery, "Passenger Airbag OFF" repeatedly remained displayed with my adult passenger sitting upright and centered, with her back against the seatback. She was approximately 125 lb initially and weighed 127 lb at our latest check. Despite following Rivian's seating guidance, I estimate the OFF indication is present more than 90% of the time. This frequency is my observation, not a Rivian measurement. I am concerned the passenger frontal airbag may be suppressed for a properly seated adult and may not protect her in a crash. The Tempe, Arizona Rivian Service Center inspected the vehicle September 8 and September 14-17, 2026. Rivian found no related diagnostic faults and concluded the OCS was "operating as designed"/"No Trouble Found." The second work order records my complaint that the airbag did not turn on around 90% of the time. The reports do not document reproduction with my passenger seated normally. The condition continued after the vehicle was returned September 17. I requested engineering/safety escalation through Rivian Service Support. The representative forwarded the concern to service-center management, promised a callback within 24-48 hours, and scheduled a third visit for September 28. Engineering involvement was not confirmed. The concern remains unresolved. The recurring OFF indication is the symptom prompting this complaint. The underlying cause is UNKNOWN. The vehicle is available for inspection, and I can provide service records, video, and manufacturer correspondence.;
