Problem: TIRES FAIL TO MEET REQUIREMENTS OF ENDURANCE TEST FMVSS # 109. FAILURE WAS DUE TO HIGHER THAN SPECIFIED SECOND PLY ANGLE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THE INCORRECT SECOND PLY ANGLE CAUSED CHAFING OF PLIES IN THE BEAD BASE AREA. A CHAFED PLY CAN RESULT IN SUDDEN AIR LOSS AND VEHICLE CRASH MAY OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
