Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. (Cooper Tire) is recalling certain Cooper Evolution Tour, Mastercraft SRT Touring, Hercules Roadtour 455 Sport, Starfire Solarus AS and Mastercraft Stratus AS tires, all in size 225/50R17 and with DOT date code 3019. The subject tires were manufactured with an improper sidewall component.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 2,095 units affected.

Description:: Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. (Cooper Tire) is recalling certain Cooper Evolution Tour, Mastercraft SRT Touring, Hercules Roadtour 455 Sport, Starfire Solarus AS and Mastercraft Stratus AS tires, all in size 225/50R17 and with DOT date code 3019. The subject tires were manufactured with an improper sidewall component.
Consequeces:: The improper sidewall component may cause tire deflation and tread separation, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Cooper Tire will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. Consumers who have had their tires replaced before this recall may be eligible to receive reimbursement. The recall began January 2, 2020. Owners may contact Cooper Tire customer service at 1-800-854-6288. Cooper Tire's number for this recall is 175.

COOPER EVOLUTION TOUR Complaints
The contact owns a 2016 Acura TLX equipped with Cooper Tires, Tires Line: Evolution Tour, Tire Size: 225/50/R18, DOT Number: N/A. The contact stated that after driving 25 MPH over a small pothole, the front driver's side tire started bulging, causing the tire to vibrate while driving. The vehicle was taken to a tire mechanic, where the tire was replaced. The tire failure mileage was approximately 26,000. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 70-75 MPH, the contact noticed that there was increasing vibration on passenger's side of the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle. The contact noticed that the passenger's side rear tire had failed, the bead had separated in the middle of the tread, and the tire had disintegrated and was deformed. The TPMS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tire mechanic, where the tire was replaced. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed an hour later, the steering wheel was pulling significantly to the right, and there was vibration on the passenger's side of the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure increased significantly, and the vehicle became uncontrollable. The TPMS warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road, where the contact noticed that the inner side of the tire near the control arm was bulging, and there was a crack on the sidewall. The vehicle was taken to a tire mechanic, where the tire was replaced. The passenger's side tires failure mileage was approximately 26,100. The tires were replaced. The tires were replacement tires. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to bring the defective tires for inspection and warranty claim. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to ship the defective tires for inspection. The tires failure mileage was approximately 26,000. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 91,000.;
MASTERCRAFT STRATUS AS Complaints
The contact owns a 2009 BMW 535I equipped with Mastercraft Tires, Tire Line: Stratus, Tire Size: 225/50/R17. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the passenger's side rear tire was bubbling, and the vehicle was unstable. The vehicle was pulled to the side of the road and the contact observed that the tread belt was broken. The tire was not the original equipment. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the rear tires were replaced. The tires were replaced with the same tire brand and tire line however, the failure recurred with the driver's side rear tire. The tire was replaced with the same tire brand and tire line. The contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19T024000 (Tires), however, the DOT number was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was 177,259. The tire failure mileage was unknown.;
STARFIRE SOLARUS AS Complaints
Starfire Solarus AS All-Season 225/60R16 98H- Car started shaking violently while I was driving it- seemed to be coming from rear tire. Limped it home, removed driver side rear tire, and noticed substantial bulge where tread was separating. Replaced tire with another brand. Several months later, same thing happened, and removed the remaining Starfire Solarus AS All-Season 225/60R16 98H tire, the passenger side rear tire, and noticed same defect. I bought both tires Mar 15, 2021 on Amazon, but have driven car very little. Unfortunately the shop that installed them didn't note mileage on receipt but the tread looks brand new (other than the defect). Looked at amazon and noticed other customers reporting the same defect! [XXX] I think these tires are very dangerous and are going to cause somebody to get injured or worse, especially since both tires are affected by defects and other consumers are reporting the exact same issue on amazon reviews.
