Freedom Motors Inc., (Freedom Motors) of Savaria Vehicle Group (formerly The Liberty Motor Company) is recalling one model year 2009 Volkswagen Routan and certain model year 2008-2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country wheelchair accessible vehicles modified by The Liberty Motor Company from February 2008 through January 2011. Over time and with use, the vehicle's rear axle may develop cracks which could lead to axle failure.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 130 units affected.

Description:: Freedom Motors Inc., (Freedom Motors) of Savaria Vehicle Group (formerly The Liberty Motor Company) is recalling one model year 2009 Volkswagen Routan and certain model year 2008-2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country wheelchair accessible vehicles modified by The Liberty Motor Company from February 2008 through January 2011. Over time and with use, the vehicle's rear axle may develop cracks which could lead to axle failure.
Consequeces:: Failure of the rear axle may increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Freedom Motors will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected axles, free of charge. The recall began on April 1, 2014. Owners can contact Freedom Motors at 1-800-561-9600. Freedom Motors' number for this recall is ENGF0216-3.

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Routan. The contact received notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V194000 (Electrical System); however, the part to complete the recall repair was not available. The local dealer was contacted to schedule the recall repair, but the part remained unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.;
2010 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY Complaints
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that while pulling out of the parking space or while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle started stalling. The contact stated that the ignition key was loose, and whenever the key was jiggled, the vehicle became inoperable. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V373000 (Electrical System, Air Bags); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.;
2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN Complaints
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact shifted the gear shifter into neutral. The vehicle was restarted. The contact stated that the failure was persistent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V373000 (Electrical System, Air Bags); however, the recall was not associated with the VIN. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.;
