Daimler Vans USA, LLC (Daimler Vans) is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2006, to July 31, 2008, 2007-2014 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2006, to July 1, 2014, and 2010-2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2010, to July 1, 2014. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

The recall was influenced by the Office of Defects Investigation with about 136,361 units affected.

Description:: Daimler Vans USA, LLC (Daimler Vans) is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2006, to July 31, 2008, 2007-2014 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2006, to July 1, 2014, and 2010-2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2010, to July 1, 2014. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
Consequeces:: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
Corrective action:: Daimler Vans will notify the Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner owners and Fiat Chrysler will notify the Dodge owners. The respective dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began March 31, 2017. Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner owners may contact Daimler Van's customer service at 1-877-762-8267. Dodge owners may contact Fiat Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE SPRINTER 2500 CARGO VAN. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 16V077000 (AIR BAGS) AND 16V352000 (AIR BAGS). THE PART FOR THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.;
2009 DODGE SPRINTER 3500 Complaints
The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Sprinter 3500. The contact had recently read online about two recalls for the driver’s and passenger’s side air bags. The contact confirmed that the VIN was included in the recalls. The contact called a local Dodge dealer and was referred to a local Mercedes-Benz dealer. Several Dodge and Mercedes-Benz dealers were contacted, but neither dealer was willing to perform the recall repair. The contact called the manufacturers and was informed that the dealers were unable to perform the recall repairs. The contact called an independent mechanic to replace the air bags and was informed that the parts to replace the air bags were no longer being manufactured. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure.;
2014 FREIGHTLINER SPRINTER 2500 Complaints
Driving down the road in heavy traffic and the lights on the dash came on and the vehicle went into limp mode almost immediately. I lost the ability to accelerate. I pressed the gas pedal and the engine just revved like it was in neutral. It almost caused an accident. lights were engine, traction, abs. Called MB dealer and they advised the wheel sensors had a NTSB warranty extension on the wheel sensors but my vehicle is not covered because the 10 yr warranty extension is up. Is there any way to get them to cover this problem?;
2014 MERCEDES BENZ SPRINTER 2500 Complaints
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 70,000 and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 223,000.;
