Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain model year 2016 GLC 300 SUV, GLC 300 4Matic SUV, C300 Sedan and C300 4Matic vehicles manufactured February 8, 2016, to May 18, 2016. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit that may have been damaged before being installed.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 62 units affected.

Description:: Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain model year 2016 GLC 300 SUV, GLC 300 4Matic SUV, C300 Sedan and C300 4Matic vehicles manufactured February 8, 2016, to May 18, 2016. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit that may have been damaged before being installed.
Consequeces:: A damaged ESP control unit may inadvertently activate the stability control altering the vehicle's path. Additionally, the electronic parking brake may not function. Either condition may increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ESP Hydraulic control units, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in October 2016. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

NHTSA Safety Complaint – 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 Vehicle: 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 | Mileage: 74,662 miles What Happened I’m filing this complaint because my 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 suffered a sudden, complete engine failure at 74,662 miles, and I believe it’s a safety risk that deserves investigation. I’ve owned this car since 2016 and followed every recommended service interval. All available warranties were purchased and maintained. The car showed absolutely no signs of trouble before this happened. Last week before filing, I was driving normally when the check engine light came on without any prior warning — no oil pressure light, no temperature alert, nothing else. Within minutes, the engine shut off completely. The car rolled to a stop and I noticed oil leaking from the front of the engine. It was towed to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership, where they confirmed the engine suffered a catastrophic internal failure and needs to be fully replaced. Why This Is a Safety Concern No advance warning. The check engine light appeared only minutes before the engine died. That’s not enough time to safely exit a highway or busy road. A sudden total engine failure at speed affects steering, braking assist, and reaction time — it could easily cause a serious accident. Engine failure at 74,662 miles is not normal. A complete engine failure on a well-maintained luxury vehicle at under 75,000 miles strongly suggests a manufacturing defect or design flaw, possibly affecting other vehicles of the same model year. Oil leak at engine front. The leak observed at failure likely points to a specific component or seal failure. If this is a design weakness, other 2016 C300 owners may be at risk without knowing it. What I’m Requesting 1.Open an investigation into the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 for sudden engine failure and inadequate warning systems. 2.Determine whether other owners have reported similar incidents. 3.Evaluate whether a safety recall is warranted.;
2016 MERCEDES-BENZ GLC300 Complaints
On XXX, my 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 was serviced at a Mercedes-Benz dealership for a B Service, including replacement of the rear brake pads and sensor. The rear wheel had to be removed to perform this work. On XXX, approximately 7 days later, my wife was driving the vehicle with our [XXX] son and his friend as passengers when the LEFT REAR WHEEL COMPLETELY SEPARATED from the vehicle while in motion on a public road. A truck was approaching from behind. The family narrowly avoided a serious collision. Police responded to the scene and an officer directed traffic while the vehicle was towed. The lug bolts were recovered from the roadway. The dealership's General Manager later asked me to return the lug bolts, which I did. The vehicle required repair of the wheel and hub assembly at a collision center. I was given no written explanation of why the wheel separated. Separately, after the XXX service I noticed a transmission problem that was not present before. On XXX it became dangerous: coming out of stops at traffic lights and stop signs, the transmission would slip into Neutral instead of engaging Drive, and after several attempts would drop directly into third gear with a hard jerk. This creates a serious risk of being unable to accelerate away from a stop in traffic. I documented this on video and provided it to the dealership. No injuries have occurred, but both incidents were near-misses with a high risk of a crash or injury. I am reporting this so the potential defect and the quality of the safety-related service are on record. I have photographs and video from the wheel-separation scene, the transmission video, the service records, and related documentation available on request.
