Blue Bird Body Company (Blue Bird) is recalling certain 2019-2021 All American and Vision school buses. An insufficient number of rivets were installed in the roof sheets, allowing the roof sheets to separate in the event of a severe impact. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 221, "School Bus Body Joint Strength."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 302 units affected.

Description:: Blue Bird Body Company (Blue Bird) is recalling certain 2019-2021 All American and Vision school buses. An insufficient number of rivets were installed in the roof sheets, allowing the roof sheets to separate in the event of a severe impact. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 221, "School Bus Body Joint Strength."
Consequeces:: In the event of a crash, if the roof sheets separate, there is an increased risk of injury.
Corrective action:: Blue Bird will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the roof joints and add the sufficient number of rivets, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 22, 2019. 2019 BLUE BIRD ALL AMERICAN Complaints
I am writing to bring to your attention several persistent issues we have encountered with the Blue Bird student seating in our buses. The seat backs, constructed from a black mesh material welded at all four corners and secured with a top bar, have repeatedly failed. We have observed that nearly all of our seats have broken seat backs, necessitating multiple repairs at Central States of Lexington. Despite these efforts, we continue to find broken seat frames. This is particularly concerning as, in the event of an accident, these seats would not adequately provide the necessary compartmentalization for student safety. We are in the process of replacing the seat frames in the buses that are currently damaged, but given our experience, we believe that using the same materials will only result in further issues in the near future. To date, we have identified a total of six buses affected by this problem. The Kentucky Department of Education has conducted a review of our district's situation and expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the seats provided by Blue Bird. This leads us to believe that this issue may not be limited to our district or state. Please advise on how you would like to proceed with the investigation of this complaint. We currently have one bus out of service at our shop, available for in-person inspection. Additionally, I can provide photographs that document the problems we have encountered with the seating in our Blue Bird buses. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. 2021 BLUE BIRD VISION SCHOOL BUS Complaints
There is an issue with the braking systems on the Bluebird buses which cause the brake lights to illuminate constantly, fail to illuminate, limit acceleration, and/or receive a "loss of brake input" warning message on the dash cluster. We have 43 Buses of like Year Models ranging from 2021 - 2022 Bluebird, Vision, that we have documented 38 separate repairs for 28 buses in our fleet related to the braking system. The brake pedal experiences excessive back travel that causes damage to the brake switch (part number 10026469). The cause of the excessive back travel is a gap between the pedal stop, rubber bumper, and switch mounting bracket. There is not enough adjustment area in the switch mounting bracket to prevent the excessive brake pedal back travel. Once the brake switch becomes damaged multiple issues become possible. There is potential for constant brake light illumination, no brake light illumination, a loss of brake input warning message, and sudden stopping of vehicle acceleration. The brake light illumination is not found consistently during the pre-trip inspection process due to the usage of the pre-trip lighting sequence button that provides false confidence that the brake lights are working properly. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The brake switch failed parts are being returned to Bluebird for Warranty parts replacement. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The multiple symptoms listed above produce various safety issues for the buses and other vehicles on the road. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, Multiple vehicles have experienced the same issue and the switches are being replaced as a repair. Multiple vehicles have reoccurring issues with the replaced switches. The local dealer has gone to the manufacturing facility and addressed the issue them.;
