PACCAR, Inc. (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Peterbilt 367, 389, 567, and 579 vehicles. The cross member mounted Hill Start Assist valve assembly may have insufficient clearance to the rear axle, causing damage to the rear brake hose and loss of the rear brake signal.

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 163 units affected.

Description:: PACCAR, Inc. (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Peterbilt 367, 389, 567, and 579 vehicles. The cross member mounted Hill Start Assist valve assembly may have insufficient clearance to the rear axle, causing damage to the rear brake hose and loss of the rear brake signal.
Consequeces:: If loss of the rear brake signal occurs, the vehicle could experience reduced rear braking capability or loss of brakes to the rear axle(s), increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will inspect for clearance and re-work the assembly to conform with an updated design, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on September 24, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 11, 2022. 2022 PETERBILT 389 Complaints
OEM pressed-on cast iron/stamped rings fail prematurely due to regional rust jacking, disabling the vehicle's ABS. Explicitly mention that the current design creates a systemic safety risk in cold-weather states and that a recall mandating corrosion-resistant materials (like stainless steel) is required. This cost thousands of dollars to repair and only lasts 2-3 years. Almost everyone I know with these trucks have experienced this problem. Peterbilt is highly aware of the situation, but they refuse rectify it because it only affects cold weather states.;
2022 PETERBILT 567 Complaints
The Crane operator reported that the trucks dashboard was frozen, the truck would not restart. No warning light displayed at this time and the truck was stationary. The truck was towed. Peterbilt provided mobile service and the issue was thought to be resolved. Dash froze again while the truck was traveling, warning lights and sound went off this time. No Accident occurred but having the dashboard fail when in motions was a very unsafe situation and additionally if the trucks dash system was to freeze up when the crane is deployed that would also be an unsafe situation. The truck is currently at a Peterbilt Service provider, but the issue has not been resolved after 5 weeks.;
2022 PETERBILT 579 Complaints
The contact owns a 2022 Peterbilt 579. The vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V915000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); however, the vehicle experienced the failure listed in the recall after the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving 22 MPH, the brakes failed to activate. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the failure with the brakes was caused by a loss of communication between the ECM and the ECU. The contact was informed that the ECU was not installed on the vehicle, and the lane mitigation system was found unplugged. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure; however, the manufacturer refused to help due to how the vehicle was manufactured. The contact stated that the vehicle was manufactured improperly with salvaged parts and stated that the serial number for the engine was not a match for the original engine. The failure mileage was 526,000.;
