Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles. A faulty automatic locking retractor (ALR) sensor in the front passenger seat belt system may incorrectly report as ON when it is actually OFF, causing the suppression or improper deployment of the air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 12,716 units affected.

Description:: Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles. A faulty automatic locking retractor (ALR) sensor in the front passenger seat belt system may incorrectly report as ON when it is actually OFF, causing the suppression or improper deployment of the air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Consequeces:: Failure of the air bag to deploy as intended increases the risk of injury to the front passenger during a crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will inspect and replace the front passenger seat belt system components as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 5, 2023. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1166.

2022 RIVIAN R1S Complaints
Vehicle was inoperable and over 100F in our driveway, with a flashing "critical high voltage battery fault". My wife injured her hand attempting to get in the vehicle. The service center has claimed that moisture inside the HVAC system caused the High Voltage (HV) battery system to fail, throwing a critical high-voltage battery fault. Rivian is attempting to deny warranty coverage based on this moisture. Linkage to Warranted Component: At 85,690 miles, my vehicle is fully covered under Rivian’s 8-year High Voltage Battery Limited Warranty. The critical high-voltage fault and subsequent component failures were directly caused by water entering the electrical/battery system. Proximate Cause via Known Manufacturing Defect: Rivian has an active Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) regarding moisture ingress via the HVAC assembly for 2022–2024 R1S models. The moisture that caused the battery fault is a documented, inherent design defect of the vehicle, not user negligence or external environmental damage. An inherent defect in an out-of-warranty system cannot be used to void coverage for a failure it causes inside a component that is still heavily protected by an active warranty. The photograph provided by the service center does not depict superficial 'moisture in the HVAC' causing external damage. It shows severe fluid ingress and terminal corrosion inside the Woory Industrial High Voltage Cabin Heater assembly. Because this is an internal, high-voltage powertrain component operating directly off the traction battery system, it falls squarely under Rivian's 8-year / 175,000-mile High Voltage System Warranty. The corrosion present on the high-voltage circuit board is a direct result of the factory HVAC water ingress defect acknowledged in Rivian's technical service bulletins for 2022-2024 R1S vehicles. 2022 RIVIAN R1T Complaints
I am reporting repeated suspension and structural failures involving my 2022 Rivian R1T. In April 2026, at approximately 90,537 miles, Rivian performed a comprehensive inspection and found both front lower control arm bushings torn, the right rear damper leaking, and the rear subframe cracked. Rivian’s own service documentation specifically stated that the vehicle was “unsafe to operate due to damage to the rear subframe” and recommended that the vehicle be towed. Rivian subsequently replaced the rear subframe, both front lower control arms, the right rear damper, and serviced the hydraulic damper system. The April repair invoice totaled approximately $9,953. Approximately five months later, at approximately 96,956 miles, the vehicle developed another significant suspension problem. The front passenger side began sitting noticeably lower. The ride became extremely rough over bumps, I could feel significant vibration through the vehicle, and the vehicle repeatedly attempted to adjust its ride height. I also received warnings telling me not to move the vehicle while the air suspension was adjusting, and I was unable to properly adjust the ride height. I brought the vehicle back to Rivian in September 2026. The current Rivian service estimate calls for replacement of both front dampers, the air-suspension compressor/ASU, and the left and right front hydraulic suspension jounce lines, along with suspension diagnostics. The suspension repair estimate is approximately $7,121. I was informed that the ASU/compressor was tried as part of diagnosing the problem but did not resolve the condition, and the front dampers are now suspected. I was also informed that because the front suspension functions as a connected system and the replacement components are an updated design, both sides/components may need to be replaced. I am concerned about the repeated failure of safety-critical suspension and structural components on the same vehicle. In approximately five months .;
