Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2022-2024 Golf R

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (VW) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Golf R, Golf GTI, 2024 Atlas, and 2024 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles. The rearview camera image may be delayed or deactivated after shifting into reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

The recall was influenced by the Office of Defects Investigation with about 84,432 units affected.

Description:: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (VW) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Golf R, Golf GTI, 2024 Atlas, and 2024 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles. The rearview camera image may be delayed or deactivated after shifting into reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequeces:: A rearview camera with a delayed or deactivated image reduces the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will update the infotainment system software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 15, 2024, and July 16, 2024. Owners may contact VW customer service at 1-800-893-5298. VW's number for this recall is 91US.

2024 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS Complaints
While accelerating, my 2024 Volkswagen Atlas hesitates and drags before responding to throttle input. The vehicle was brought to Volkswagen Cypress (Houston, TX) on 08/25/2026 for a scheduled service appointment that included this concern as well as recall 24V480. As of 08/27/2026 - two days later - the vehicle has not been inspected or touched by a technician. The dealer has confirmed they are approximately 3 days behind and offered no resolution. The acceleration hesitation presents a safety concern, particularly when merging onto highways or crossing intersections. Recall 24V480 remains unaddressed.;
2024 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS CROSS SPORT Complaints
The rearview camera and infotainment display intermittently fail. When the vehicle is shifted into reverse, the infotainment screen goes black or freezes, disabling the rearview camera image. The vehicle must be stopped and the system manually rebooted before rear visibility is restored. The failure occurs frequently in high ambient temperatures, which in South Florida is a near-daily condition. This is the exact defect covered by Recall 24V-480, which applies to my vehicle. The recall's software remedy has been applied — and the defect has returned. The defect has been reported to an authorized Volkswagen service center on three occasions: Visit 1 (August 2, 2024, at approximately 2,630 miles — 14 days after delivery): Customer complaint recorded as "Infotainment screen is turning off and on." Dealer performed no repair and reported the system was "functioning as designed." Visit 2 (February 17, 2026, at approximately 19,742 miles): Customer complaint recorded as "Rear view camera blacks out / shows black screen / does not work properly." Dealer applied Technical Bulletin 91-24-02 and performed a radio software update from version 1969 to 1990, recording the recall as complete. Visit 3 (July 17, 2026, at approximately 23,662 miles): Customer complaints recorded as "Rear camera at time doesn't turn on" and "Radio screen goes off at time and doesn't connect back to CarPlay." Dealer performed a hard reset and stated the concern was "not present" at the time of inspection. Safety impact: Loss of the rearview camera image at the moment of shifting into reverse eliminates required rear visibility (FMVSS No. 111). The driver has a documented history of a prior backing collision, which makes this defect a direct and ongoing safety hazard to the driver, family members transported in the vehicle, and third parties. The failure is intermittent and cannot be predicted, meaning the driver cannot compensate for it in advance.;
2024 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R Complaints
Vehicle consistently misfires after fueling. Sometimes the pump shuts off early before filling the tank adding 5-9 gallons when I should expect 12. VW claims it is bad fuel but to get bat fuel at multiple gas stations over the course of a year is unlikely. I believe it is related to the suction jet pump that VW was forced to recall on various models but dealerships will not inspect this part. It has been in for diagnosis 7 times since the first cel was triggered in May of 2025.;
2024 VOLKSWAGEN GTI Complaints
The "Hill Start Assist" function does not behave as-stated in the owner's manual and I believe the way it's implemented is a potential safety issue. The manual states: "To start driving, take your foot off the brake pedal and press the accelerator pedal immediately. The brakes will release gradually as you start driving. The holding function of the Hill Start Assist remains active only for a short time. Drive off within approx. two seconds." I owned a 2010 and a 2016 GTI prior to this one and on those vehicles the feature functioned exactly as it's described above. However, on the 2024 model I own now, the assist does NOT release when I press the accelerator, it only does so after two seconds. I can press the accelerator all I want, but the car won't move until two seconds have passed. This may seem minor, but if you're in a situation where a vehicle is coming and you need to react quickly, two seconds may be the difference between continuing safely or colliding with another vehicle. Plus, the assist activates based on the grade of the hill and there's no indication when it's active, so I don't always know when I have to wait two seconds and when I can just go. If the car isn't going to behave as-described and as I expect it to then it's unsafe. I purchased this car out-of-state and, since the assist doesn't function work how the manual says it should or like it does on other vehicles that feature it, it also led to me stalling the car multiple times during the drive home and a few times since then. This happened because I was pressing the accelerator while releasing the clutch but the car wouldn't move. I was really confused by the behavior and slightly panicked with a string of cars behind me. If nothing else, Volkswagen should issue an addendum to the description in the manual, but I still believe it's unsafe as-is. There are dozens (probably hundreds) of complaints about this behavior in various forums, subreddits, Facebook groups, and so on.;
