Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2025 R1S and R1T vehicles. One or both front turn signals may fail to illuminate and flash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 27,882 units affected.

Description:: Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2025 R1S and R1T vehicles. One or both front turn signals may fail to illuminate and flash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Consequeces:: Turn signals that do not function properly, failing to indicate the driver's intention to change direction, increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Rivian will inspect and replace the front turn signals as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 22, 2025. Owners will receive a second notice once the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1693.

2025 RIVIAN R1S Complaints
Safety defect involving exterior rearview mirrors on Rivian R1S I am reporting a recurring and worsening safety issue involving the exterior rearview mirrors on my Rivian R1S Gen 2. Both side mirrors repeatedly lose their saved positions without driver input. More concerningly, on multiple occasions the mirrors have changed position while the vehicle was being driven, including at highway speeds. When this occurs, my rearward and side visibility is unexpectedly altered while driving, requiring me to readjust the mirrors and creating a significant safety concern. This problem has persisted across multiple Rivian software versions and has become progressively worse. I have already reported the issue to Rivian Service more than once. I have attempted to re-save the mirror positions, disable and re-enable Auto Tilt in Reverse, perform software resets, and recalibrate the system, without resolving the problem. The issue is not caused by Automatic Ride Height Adjustment, as it has occurred while that feature was disabled. I have requested that Rivian escalate the issue to its Engineering team and review vehicle logs, which should document the repeated changes in mirror position. Because the exterior mirrors can change position without driver input while the vehicle is moving, I believe this may constitute a safety-related defect affecting driver visibility. I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue and determine whether similar complaints exist involving Rivian R1S vehicles.;
2025 RIVIAN R1T Complaints
This vehicle has experienced two separate failures of the high-voltage (HV) battery pack, each resulting in a different drive unit being damaged and total loss of electrical systems while driving. First incident (July 28, 2025): While driving, all warning lights illuminated and the vehicle indicated a possible electrical hazard. The vehicle lost power completely. It was taken to a Rivian service center on July 29, 2025, and was not returned until August 15, 2025 — a total of 17 days out of service. Rivian’s technicians found multiple faults in the HV battery pack and replaced it. Rivian’s own repair notes state that its engineering team requested the front drive unit also be replaced “due to the nature of the failure with the HV battery pack” — i.e., Rivian attributed the drive unit damage to the battery pack failure, not to an independent defect. Both the HV battery pack and front drive unit were replaced under warranty. Second incident (June 29, 2026, approx. 16,256 miles): After charging at a Tesla Supercharger, the vehicle displayed a “Rivian thermal system fault” warning, which indicated driving could continue. While subsequently driving on the highway, the vehicle displayed a “reduced performance” warning, followed by an “all-wheel drive system fault” warning. A loud popping sound was then heard from the rear drive unit, accompanied by visible and smell of smoke in the vehicle. The driver safely pulled over. All electrical systems malfunctioned in the same manner as the first incident. The vehicle is currently undergoing diagnosis; based on the symptoms (identical to the first incident) and Rivian’s own causal link between battery failure and drive unit damage in the first incident, it is possible the HV battery pack is again involved, this time in connection with the rear drive unit.;
