MICHELIN TIRES Complaints

A 205/55/R16 tire exploded when I was driving on the freeway at 9:15 am. I had driven less than 3 miles. The tire that exploded had less than 16,000 miles. I didn't run over an object or I would have also punctured my front tire too. At the time of the explosion I didn't know what happened, but heard a loud noise that I thought was from a car next to me. Once both cars moved ahead of me, I realized the loud noise was coming from under my car. I then was able to pull to the side of the freeway. Once I pulled over I saw the tire had exploded. I took photos of the tire and took both parts to the tire shop where my tires are under warranty. I had inspected my tires the prior Monday, two days prior and didn't see an issue with any of the tires. I've never had a tire blowout before. The tire shop threw the tire away even though I asked for a report of the incident to appropriate entities. The tire shop told me the tire was under inflated or that I hit a road hazard but couldn't prove that's what caused the explosion. Also the tire shop did not show me where a road hazard penetrated the tire. In the past if a tire had run over an object this tire shop would show me the object. I have 3 of the same tires on my car which I don't trust because my tire exploded without warning.

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey equipped with Michelin Tires. Tire Line: PAC Tire Tire Size :235/710R460A. The contact stated that the tire tread was low and he was unable to have the tires removed and replaced. The TPMS warning indicator illuminated and rendered the system inoperable. The contact called several local dealers Honda Service of Omaha 4111 S 144th St, Omaha, NE 68137(402) 408-1000, O'Daniel Honda Service123 Beverly Dr, Omaha, NE 68114(402) 393-7801where it was informed the tires have been discontinued and/or the machine for removal was not available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle mileage was approximately 197,243. The tire mileage was unknown.

Tires worn to wear bar 2/32 to 4/32 in in 28,000 miles. At severe risk for hydroplaning and possible accident related to all tires with premature wear. This is second full set of Michelin tires that have worn prematurely. The tires have been inspected by Costco tires which is the purchasing dealer. I have called the manufacture also Aug 18, 2022. They have started a warranty but was told it would be toward purchase of new set of Michelin. I do not wish to purchase their tires in the near future. I have been a customer with Michelin for many years and have always been very satisfied but recently the tires are very poor quality.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: The Defender, Tire size: 205/65/R16, and DOT number: B5EV01TX4919. The contact stated that the tire tread was worn in an untimely manner. The contact stated that the tires were replaced two years ago. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the quality of the tires was of a different material. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where service was denied due to the tires still having half the tread. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact of the warranty. The failure mileage was 68,618.

Tire size 275/40/ZR 19. Unexpected tire wear. Have replaced twice in one year. Each set lasting about 5k miles. Current set lost air without puncture. All tread gone. verified proper inflation and appropriate driving style on AWD vehicle. Front tires are different size and appear to have held up better. Last incident led to flat tire and the need to change to spare on the side of a highway

TIRE SIZE: 275/80 R22.5 MICHELIN ENERGY LINE Z Component that failed is drivers side steer front tire. The tire blew out and resulted in loss of vehicle control. This failure DID cause an accident putting others safety at risk. Both Freightliner Corp. and Michelin Tire Co. are aware of this failure. No one has inspected the tire. I DO NOT have the tire in my possession yet. There are/were no warning, messages or symptoms of this problem prior to. This truck had a right side tire failure at the decoupling groove on May 11, 2022. The tire was replaced at that time with a new tire tire. This truck returned to Toledo Ohio to our terminal. The 4X4X4 air fairings were then removed at the request of DTNA. On 8-5-22 with 52,742 miles on the tire, it blew out resulting in an accident.

TIRE SIZE: 275/80 R22.5 MICHELIN ENERGY LINE Z Component that failed is passenger side steer front tire. The inside edge decoupling groove/sidewall failed. Risks include potential tire blow resulting in loss of vehicle control. This failure could cause an accident putting others safety at risk. Both Freightliner Corp. and Michelin Tire Co. are aware of this failure. No one has inspected the tire. I have the tire in my possession. There are/were no warning, messages or symptoms of this problem prior to. This truck was built with a 6X4X6 front air fairing. Mileage on tire at the time of failure was 68,686 miles. This truck is a test with Con Met Corp. and Freightliner Corp. New tires were installed at 474,452 miles along with heat sensors to monitor the heat temperature under the truck. At 526,168 miles I reported the passenger side, inside edge steer was starting to wear a decoupling groove. This was very slight. Tire was not changed. Pursuant to the Michelin Technical Bulletin of 1-2-2022 the tire was inspected every Monday when truck returns to our terminal. On July 13, 2022 the tire psi was checked to verify 110 psi as recommended by Michelin Corp. At 543,148 miles the tire failed. 2 new steer tires installed and the air fairings were removed as recommended by DTNA engineers. Side wall of tire shows excessive heat. Tire was close to blowing. Please review pictures.

The tire exploded while in the trunk of the car on 7/27/22 around 6:45PM. The tire says it was made in France. The US pat appears to be 3838726. Also has a RH 476 or maybe it is RH 475. Tire size: T 125/80 R 16. Also says 97M. It is a tubeless tire.

There are/were no warning, messages or symptoms of this problem prior to. Michelin Tire Co. sent us 2 new tires and requested we remove the air fairing to see if this could resolve the problem. At the time we proceeded with this request the truck had 315,805 miles on it. On 6-20-22 Michelin Tire Co. supplied Freightliner Corp. with a tech bulletin regarding the decoupling groove failure. At 455,485 miles this tire was showing signs of decoupling failure. This failure appeared to be within the guide lines of the tech bulletin. At 465,523 miles the tire showed excessive decoupling groove failure in multiple spots. Mileage on tire at the time of failure was 149,718 miles.

Both Freightliner Corp. and Michelin Tire Co. are aware of this failure. No one has inspected the tire. I have the tire in my possession. There are/were no warning, messages or symptoms of this problem prior to. This truck was built with a 4X4X4 front air fairing that was removed after this failure by the request of Freighliner Corp. Mileage on tire at the time of failure was 85,982 miles.
