2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA Complaints

2017 Chrysler Pacifica experiencing engine misfiring / stalling due to blown head gasket and possible engine block cracking at 78000 miles. Happens at idle. Appears to be a common issue and part of a legal settlement in 2023. Have attempted to repair the issue once and vehicle is currently at the dealership service awaiting resolution with independent Arbitrator.

Car has had on going transmission issues with slipping and power loss that dealer was not able to diagnose. The car check engine light came on, and at the dealer the code was for cylinder failure and on inspection at the dealer the left 4th cylinder has failed and the car will need a new engine with only 80,000 miles and proper maintenance. This is available for inspection. Our safety was at risk that the car has had difficulty shifting and has lost power in traffic.

I was pulling into a parking lot and had my foot on the gas. The gas pedal suddenly stopped allowing me to accelerate. The dashboard read "place car in park" I lost power of the vehicle. I was able to pull safely into a parking space and then I put the van in park and turned it off. I started it up and it started without issue. This was a very scary situation as I almost hit a shopping cart where I was forced to pull in as I had no power and was coasting in a parking lot full of cars.

The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not immediately accelerate, and the transmission experienced hard shifting. The check engine warning light remained illuminated. The contact stated that later while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine misfired. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission was faulty and engine coolant was present inside cylinders number 1,3 and 5. The vehicle was not yet repaired. Additionally, the driver’s and passenger’s side sliding doors malfunctioned and erroneously opened after being closed. The doors were reprogrammed, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that after a cold start the brake pedal extended to the floor. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 40,000.

Blown head gasket at 64000 miles. Leaking coolant into the cylinders. Mechanic says the gasket has been repaired before.

The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, she observed a humming sound coming from the engine compartment. Additionally, the vehicle lost motive power and would not accelerate as intended. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where DTC Code: P00B was retrieved; however, the contact was informed that the engine needed to be taken apart for the vehicle to be fully diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

Hotter than normal engine heat. Smells very hot even when driving in cabin like some liquid ( maybe Coolant) is burning. Code P0303. Misfire #3 cylinder. Reported issue to dealer several times. Very hot.. paint on hood bubbling. They repaired paint per 100,000 mile 7 year extended warranty. No diagnosis disclosed re known issue with head gaskets on these 3.6 ltr engines. No code until two months after warranty expired. Chrysler mechanic in Santa Barbara told me today that they have to replace gaskets and heads on these 3.6 engines all the time and likely a recall coming soon. Overheating is a safety issue. Leak down test verified bubbling in Coolant reservoir. Mechanic says this issue was highly likely occurring over 1-2 years until it actually triggered engine light and misfire code. Many complaints on Pacifica forums on this exact issue. Have service records re same concerns including from 2022. Thank you

This vehicle’s UConnect “infotainment” system began to malfunction after only 20,000 miles or so. At first it was only intermittent resets but they progressed over the last two years or so until now it is constantly auto-selecting every feature in the system while driving. I have experienced random selection of the heating/cooling system, auto parking brake, random nav selections, radio/audio changes, display units, language, seat heater, and more. Basically every selection available through the touchscreen it does randomly while driving. It is hugely distracting and even uncomfortable. I have had it in twice seeking a fix but the dealer seems unable to address it.

It started on or about September 17, 2023, the van's adaptive cruise control, forward collision, automatic breaking is warnings show up on the dash after driving the vehicle about 10 minutes. It does it every day that I drive the vehicle. I have looked up causes and repairs online and there are many complaints about this issue and also after paying a couple thousand dollars at the dealership, it will work for about six months then start happening again. Also unable to use cruise control while driving on a trip, the crusie control will quit operating about ten minutes after the car starts and while driving it.

Multiple events (over 5) have occured from December 2023 thru March 2024 involving the transmission clunk/jerk/bang with near total loss of speed when accelerating from a stop or low speed. Also several events with loss of acceleration (no reponse from the gas pedel). This happened with me turning left at a light and trying to clear an intersection. Van is available for inspection. Safety was put at risk by van stopping in moving traffic, and with being nearly rear ended several times. Also nearly being hit head on by not being able to complete the left hand turn thru the interesction timely. Vehicle has not been inspected by any dealer or law enforcement. There have never been any warning light given during these events. Dealer said by phone that without warning lights they would have nothing to trace the problem with.
