2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA Complaints

My Car won't start and when taken to the chrysler dealership they stated that Car Engine is dead and will need to be replaced.

Intermittent steering failure when travelling at high speeds At speeds above 40 mph on long sweeping curves, after initiating a turn, the steering wheel exhibits a "notchy" or "catching" resistance to input when returning the wheel to the neutral (straight-ahead) position. This feedback impacts steering wheel movement resulting in a dangerous over- or under-correction to steering. The vehicle was brought to 2 different Chrysler dealers to diagnose the issue. The second dealer replaced the steering rack and pinion assembly at the owner's cost. Various internet sources show numerous customer complaints about the same steering issue for this year/make/model, so this serious safety problem is not unique to this particular vehicle.

We had the FCA Recall #Z11, NHTSA Recall #22V-077 repaired on this vehicle. One week later, the plug-in hybrid Pacifica was parked in the garage, plugged in but done charging. In the middle of the night, the battery spontaneously combusted. We heard a loud boom sound and found the car smoldering and emitting significant amounts of smoke. The car then burst into flames. The fire department soaked the car with water but it continued to reignite for approximately two hours despite the fire department’s best efforts to extinguish the fire. The car was completely destroyed. It also caused significant chemical smoke damage to our garage and home. As soon as we found it smoking, we rolled it out of the garage, which saved our house from catching on fire. Luckily our children were not in or next to the car at the time the battery combusted. There were no warning signs in the car prior to this incident. The vehicle has been inspected by insurance and is available for further inspection. At least two members of the family experienced adverse health consequences following the smoke exposure.

The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant had leaked into the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,494.

The contact stated that two weeks after purchasing the vehicle new, the vehicle would jerk while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal. The RPM’s was stuck on 2,000 RPM. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic test was completed. The contact did not recall whether the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was then taking to an independent mechanic several times where unknown repairs were completed; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local Pep Boys where it was diagnosed with evaporative emission system failure. Additionally, the contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH and coming to a complete stop, the engine was making a loud banging sound before the vehicle shut off. The electronic throttle control warning light was illuminated and the message "Service electronic stability" was displayed. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where an unknown repair was completed; however, the check engine warning light illuminated for several days. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11.

The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 MPH and making a turn, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle restarted after several minutes. While driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled again. The vehicle hesitated while restarting. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

Voltmeter is fluctuating between 10-15 volts. The windows will go down by themselves while driving, slow to start, and the dash lights/radio control screen takes several minutes to come on, and the auto sliding doors fail to operate occasionally. Several times the vehicle will lose Excelleration when starting from a stop or turning, the last time nearly causing an accident. The vehicle is becoming unsafe to drive and I have seen several like complaints on this year model vehicle.

The vehicle was shifted into reverse; however, the rear-view camera failed to operate as designed. The contact stated that the radio malfunctioned, and the steering wheel heater and seat heaters failed to deactivate causing the seats to overheat and burn the occupants. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who had replaced and upgraded the center seat module; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer two more times where the radio was replaced then the touchscreen was replaced. The failure reoccurred; however, the contact had not taken the vehicle back to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a case. The approximate failure mileage was 16,742.

The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the battery level was low and the warning message stating to plug in the vehicle to charge and to decelerate was illuminated. The vehicle stalled and lost motive power; however, the contact was able to pull over. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle several times. The contact stated that the vehicle started up for several minutes but then stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle needed to be charged for a full day, but no failure was found. The mechanic at the dealer had experienced the vehicle unintendedly accelerating. The dealer stated that the failure would be reported to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted but stated that there was no record of the failure. The failure mileage was 39,947.
