2013 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY Complaints

The car would turn off as I am driving on the high way. I would have to wait about forty five minutes to restart the car. As I did my research to why this was happing I came across information that this was caused by a malfunction with in the TIMP.

Started the vehicle and traveled maybe about 50 feet. Noticed loss of power steering. This was due to the engine stalling out. The vehicle would not start and there was a strong odor of fuel fumes in the vehicle cabin. Exited the vehicle and observed a large puddle of oil running downhill from the vehicle. The puddle also smelled of gasoline. I had the vehicle towed to a repair shop. The issue was determined to be a cracked oil filter housing assembly and the clip on the fuel return line had failed causing fuel to be sprayed onto the engine. The repair cost will be just over $800. It is fortunate that the engine was still cold and that the loss of oil caused the engine to shut off. If the engine had been hot enough to ignite the fuel, this could have had tragic results with a potential loss of my family's life. The oil filter housing assembly is a known issue with the Pentastar V6 3.6L engine. Chrysler so far has failed to take responsibility for this issue. I recently had to have repairs due to a faulty fuel pump relay. There appears to be related Chrysler TIPM recalls on almost every other model but the 2013 Town and Country. This issue appears to cause the vehicle to not start or allow the fuel pump to remain running after the vehicle is shut down. My Town and Country would not start and it produced strong fuel fumes. As noted, there are multiple safety issues noted with this model of vehicle that remain unresolved. It is a 2013 model but the issues are ones that have existed since the production of the vehicle and Chrysler has yet to assume responsibility. I will add a copy of the repair invoice shortly.

The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was flashing. Additionally, the Auto Start feature was inoperable. The contact also stated that the heater was activated independently. While driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the hood latch had been seized, and the electrical system was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but the dealer declined to service the vehicle and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

We have had to replace 2 faulty flywheels (a.k.a. flexplates) in our Chrysler Town & Country. The mechanics report that the composite materials used in creating these flywheel/flexplate parts were "less structurally sound than they should have been; therefore causing premature breakdown/failure in otherwise acceptable conditions."

While driving the car stalls at speed and all electrical components stop functioning. This causes failure to the power steering, power brakes and all components that permit driving the vehicle. Has happened numerous times with no codes shown on the dash. Fuel was adequate and no apparent defects. Taken to mechanic and there are no codes to check and commonly the engine will start up after a while and appear to have no problems. This is very dangerous as the car can stall at any speed.

Driver side front seat active head restraint deployed while vehicle unoccupied. Plastic holding metal pin or rod broken.

The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, he slightly touched the ignition key, and the vehicle shut off inadvertently. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving on a bumpy road surface. The contact was able to pull to the side of the roadway and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring increasingly while driving and caused the headlights to turn off and the vehicle to lose power steering functionality. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN and the year vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V373000 (Electrical System, Air Bags) . The failure mileage was approximately 115,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Vehicle shuts down while driving and shuts down when key fob is bumped or touched while driving. Very dangerous and have come very close to collision often. This ignition switch on our 2013 Chrysler Town and Country van should be recalled due to safety issues.

As I was driving down a local highway my rear liftgate spoiler broke off my van, hit the road and flew into a field or ditch. Luckily no one was close enough behind me to get hit by the debris. I tried to find the spoiler but was unable to safely find it due to the busy highway. I have not filed a claim with my insurance yet or taken it into a dealer service dept. Just before the spoiler flew off I heard some banging on my rear window but was unable to safely stop to investigate.

I was driving and all of a sudden I heard a loud pop and the driver side head rest deployed on its own. There was no accident, I was just was driving. The headrest struck the back of my head resulting in me having a sore neck.
